Sepia Saturday 677 : 17 June 2023

When looking at old photographs, clothes are always important. It's not that they make the wearer look good, or are made well, or are of high quality: its the fact that they can provide vital dating evidence. All lovers of old photographs become experts on style, because it is the style of the dress, the cut of the suit jacket, the precise width of the brim of the hat that gives us a clue as to which decade the photograph might have been taken in. So this week on Sepia Saturday we are celebrating clothes and you are invited to share photographs that, in one way or another, fits in with the theme. Just post your post on or around Saturday 17 June 2023 and add a link to the list below.

Sepia Saturday 676 : Saturday 10th June 2023

Some of the best old photographs are the ones where there is no obvious subject and no obvious story being told; photographs that capture nothing and everything at the same time - photographs of life. This week's theme image is a good example: a woman about to get on a motor scooter, people walking in the background, life being led by one and all. Such photos have advantages and disadvantages when used as theme images: on the one hand they lack a clear theme or subject, whilst on the other hand there is plenty of scope for interpretations. You can interpret this week's theme image any way you like, on or around Saturday 10th June 2023. After you have done it, scoot off and leave a link to your post on the list below. And while you are waiting for your engine to turn over, take a look at what is to come:-

Sepia Saturday 675 : Saturday 3 June 2023

As I type this post on my computer keyboard and watch the words appear on the screen in front of me, I have difficulty remembering that written communication wasn't always this easy. I was brought up in the typewriter era, and for much of my life I have banged away on typewriter kets and manually returned the carriage to start a new line of type following the ringing of a bell. Our Sepia Saturday theme image this week features a typewriter and it may inspire you to find some match - either obvious or wonderfully obscure - from your own collection of old photographs. If it does all you need to do is to feature those images in a post on or around Saturday 3 June 2023, and add a link to the post to the list below.

Before you load a new sheet of paper to the typewriter, why not take a look at what is around the Sepia Saturday corner.

Sepia Saturday 674 : Saturday 27 May 2023

I know we've had dogs, I suspect we've had birds, and maybe there was a stray cow or sheep here and there, but I'm not sure if we';ve had cats as a theme on Sepia Saturday before. This is the week for all you cat lovers to seek out your old photographs that may (or, as this is Sepia Saturday, may not) be linked to cats. Just share your photos on or around Saturday 27th May 2023 and add a link to the list below.

We've had enough of this rhyming nonsense, so let's get rid of the words and leave it up to you to define the theme, based on the theme images. Here are the next two theme images.

Sepia Saturday 673 : 20 May 2023

This week we find ourselves with bats as our theme image. The chap who determines these weekly themes seems to have got himself stuck in a rhyming time-warp, and for this I apologise. However, we should be thankful, I guess, that it is bats and not rats; although the latter might still be around the sepia corner. Anyway, do what you can with bats, and do it on or around Saturday 20th May 2023. When you have done it, add a link to the list below.

Once you have hit this theme out of the park, you can spend a bit of time thinking about the themes to come,

Sepia Saturday 672 : Saturday 13 May 2023

You've got to take your hat off to Sepia Saturday contributors. Whatever the prompt, whatever the obscure image I come up with, they always seem to find images to match. This week I am asking them to think about hats - bit hats, small hats, colourful hats, hats with flowers on them - any kind of hat they want. Just take a hat, feature it in a post, post that post on or around Saturday 13th May 2023, and add a link to the list below. It's as easy as that (which rhymes with hat). And here are some other things that rhyme with hats - are next theme images.

Sepia Saturday 671 : Saturday 6 May 2023

The thing about Sepia Saturday is, that it is a bit like going for a ride in a bus to an unknown destination. You jump on board, not knowing where you might be heading, but determined to enjoy the ride. And this week on Sepia Saturday, it is the ride itself that provides us with our theme. You can jump on or jump off whenever you please - the theme, after all, is a vague direction rather than a precise destination. Just buy a ticket, and post your posts on or around Saturday 6th May 2023 and add a link to the list below. And whilst you wait for the bus conductor to come, take a look at the themes coming up in the next few weeks. Any more fares, please!
