All lovers and collectors of old photographs have a category labelled "unknown". It is the box you place what's left after you've put Uncle Joe and Auntie Ethel into their own respective boxes (be they actual boxes or digital folders). In some ways it's a rather sad category: those who live within its confines have lost their names and their personal histories. It contains, however, photographs that are imaginative springboards: who is this woman, what kind of life did she lead, what became of her? this week on Sepia Saturday I am celebrating the forgotten stars of our photographic collections. My car broke down on the way to put up this week's Sepia Saturday call - so my apologies for its late arrival and my thanks, as always, to Barbara Rogers for helping me to change the tyre. If you want a theme for your Sepia Saturday contribution there are plenty on offer this week. There is a bridge, of course, or to be more accurate two bridges. Stereo photographs were very popular at the beginning of the twentieth century but seem to have fallen out of fashion. No doubt you can get Artificial Intelligence to generate a 3D effect - you can probably get it to place your in an immersive environment where you feel the London drizzle whilst you stare at a four dimensional Tower Bridge. There are rivers, there are towers and there is up and there is down: there are as many themes as you want.
