Sepia Saturday 721 : Saturday 27 April 2024

I've no idea who these two are - as with most Sepians, old photographs seem to gravitate towards me like iron filings to a magnet. I am sure there is a back story somewhere, they are somebody's children, somebody's uncles, somebody's grandparents. Whoever they are, the photograph illustrates perfectly the fact that old photographs not only tell a personal story, they also tell a wider social story - the clothing, the features, the background: they are part of the two together beauty of old photographs. Whatever two together themes you might have, or indeed not have, now is your last opportunity, for the time being, to share them. Just post your post on or around Saturday 27th April 2024 and add a link to the list below.

As we leave April behind, are monthly theme changes and we are off on our travels again. Whether it be by coach, by bike, by car, or by cruise ship, our May theme is "On The Move", so get a move on and look out some suitable old photographs.

Sepia Saturday 720 : Saturday 20th April 2024

Our "Two Together" month continues with these two happy people enjoying the Spring Sunshine. There is no spring sunshine around here at the moment, but that doesn't matter because we can go back in time and find a time when the sun always shone. That's the beauty of Sepia Saturday - just find your happy memory, post it in a post on or around Saturday 20th April 2024 and add a link to the list below.

Sepia Saturday 719 : 13 April 2024

They glide across the dance floor like ... you can complete the simile yourselves. This week our April theme of two together takes to the dance floor. Your chosen old photograph may demonstrate all the grace and elegance of my Aunty Miriam and Uncle Frank (pictured on this week's theme image) or it may shake the rafters with a juggernaut of a jive. Whatever the step, whatever the music, just posts your posts on or around Saturday 13th April 2024 and add a link to the list below. And if you are sitting this one out, you might want to consider what is next here on Sepia Saturday.

Friday 5 April 2024

Sepia Saturday 718 : 6 April 2024

Our Two Together month starts with Harry and Annie. Annie was my father's sister and her husband, Harry was a former professional musician and singer. They embarked on married life in Bradford in 1933, and that time as two together came to a sad end in 1980 when Annie died. I like to think that they were reunited two years later when Harry also died. Between 1933 and 1980 there were lots of stories, lots of drama, lots of laughter .... and, of course, lots of photographs. Ninety one years after that first day as Two Together, they are two together again, asking people from around the world to share their old photographs on or around Saturday 6th April 2024 .... and asking them to add a link to the list below. Here are the rest of the month's weekly prompts.

Sepia Saturday 717 : 30 March 2024

We're done with work here on Sepia Saturday. Well, after this week, we are done with our monthly work theme here on Sepia Saturday and it's not a moment too soon for some of us - as you can tell from this late call for proposals (and thank you Barbara for reminding me). Our weekly image shows some poor chap sat at a desk with an overflowing work tray (it is E D Morrel and not E D Mossel as my caption suggests - yet another sign of overwork). But forget the lateness and the mistakes - just try and come up with a picture of some old overworked guy whose gradually sinking under a pile of papers (all I need to do is to look in a mirror). Whatever you come up with, come up with it on or around Saturday 30th March 2024 and add a link to the list below. Next month we have a new theme for our old photos - two together. Here is a preview of the weekly images.

Wednesday 20 March 2024

Sepia Saturday 716 : Saturday 23 March 2024

Here we are, the middle of March and we are still at work. You will recall that "Going To Work" is our March 2024 theme and this week's prompt features a tailor at work (a "tailor" and not a "Taylor" - apologies for that daft caption). All you need to do is to look through your old photographs, pin down a suitable image, cut it to size, and everything will be all sewed up! Do all that on or around Saturday 23 March 2024 and add a link to the list below and I will be well suited.  Before I have chance to add any more daft links, here is the remaining March prompt and the four we will be using in April.

Sepia Saturday 715 : Saturday 16th March 2024

Looking back at our weekly prompts for March on the general theme of "Going To Work" it would be easy to fall into the nonsensical belief that it is men who do the work. Not only do women workers these days contribute a near equal part of the overall labour force, they have so often in the past been brought into the labour force during times of crisis such as wartime - only too often to be forcibly removed from the labour force once the conflict was over! And this is above and beyond the fact that whether it is paid work or not, women have always worked in the home and in the family. Thus, this week we are celebrating women workers here on Sepia Saturday. You are invited to share your old photos of women workers, male workers, any workers ... or no workers at all. Just post your post on or around Saturday 16th March 2024 and add a link to the list below.

And here's what is to come over the next few weeks on Sepia Saturday:-

And the April Monthly theme is:-

Sepia Saturday 714 : Saturday 9th March 2024

I'm convinced these Sepia Saturday prompts get easier as time goes on. Back in the old days - and let's face it, Sepia Saturday has been going on almost as long as computers have - themes were challenging affairs such as  hats, streets, horses, and bridges. These days, however, they are all a little too simple and anyone with a half-decent collection of old photos can easily come up with a match. This week - Sepia Saturday 714, post your posts on or around Saturday 9th March 2024 - all you need to do is to come up with a match for two men sticking dead worms on bits of old rope! Easy Peasy. Post whatever you come up with (and I mean post in an electronic sense, I am not suggesting for a moment that you send dead worms through your national postal service) and add a link to the list below. Here are the rest of March's "Going To Work" prompts and a first look at our monthly theme for April 2024.

Friday 1 March 2024

Sepia Saturday 713 : 2 March 2024

Sorry for the late publication of this call for Sepia Saturday 713. I'd like to say that I have been hard at work and that has delayed the post, but the truth is that others have been hard at work on my behalf and all I had to do was to lie on a couch and have electrodes stuck to my chest! Everything seems to be working normally at the moment, so you can take that as a signal to post your Sepia Saturday contributions on or around Saturday 2nd March 2024 and add a link to the list below.

Thursday 22 February 2024

Sepia Saturday 712 : Saturday 24th February 2024

I shot an arrow in the air / it fell to earth .... on Sepia Saturday in Missouri in the 1950s. Wherever you shoot your arrow, enjoy it because this is the last week that we will be having fun. As from next week we are into March and March means "Going To Work" because that will be our monthly theme. Before we get into that, this is your last chance to enjoy yourself in whatever way takes your fancy. Just picture it, post it, and share it on or around Saturday 24th February 2024 and add a link to the list below. Try not to think too much about the work to come, but if you must ... have a quick preview.

Wednesday 14 February 2024

Sepia Saturday 711 : 17th February 2024

There are rides, there are picnics, there is fun for all at Camden Park. So that is three potential themes to start with. Add on to those, brick walls, iron gates, and electricity cables and you have all the themes you could possibly want to have fun here on Sepia Saturday. All you need to do is to post your post on or around Saturday 17th February 2024 and add a link to the list below. And there is more fun to be had in the coming weeks:-

Wednesday 7 February 2024

Sepia Saturday 710 : 10th February 2024

It's February so we are having fun here on Sepia Saturday and this week our theme image shows people having fun at an amusement park back in the 1920s. You can interpret the theme in any way you want to; the only things you need to do are (a) have fun, and (b) post a post on or around Saturday 10th February 2024 and add a link to the list below. And, seeing as you are having so much fun, take a look at what's to come.

Friday 2 February 2024

Sepia Saturday 709 : Saturday 3 February 2024

It's miserable and cold outside and even if we leave the weather aside, you've got to admit that the world is a pretty miserable place to be at the moment. The best I can do in the way of helping out is to declare that February is "Having Fun" month here on Sepia Saturday. And we start with some fun at the seaside with our prompt this week featuring some brave bathers from the Netherlands. However you decide to have fun, share your images on or around Saturday 3rd February and add a link to the list below.

Here is a reminder of our future programme of Sepia Saturday prompts:-

Thursday 25 January 2024

Sepia Saturday 708 : Saturday 27th January 2024

We finish off our music month here on Sepia Saturday with a bit of opera. Just a bit, or perhaps a few bits: the best bits just like Sepia Saturday brings you the best bits of old photographs. Whether it's an aria or an overture, we invite you to submit your best bits for Sepia Saturday on or around Saturday 27th January 2024 and add a link to the list below. And after that you can have some fun. And after that, you can go to work.

Thursday 18 January 2024

Sepia Saturday 707 : Saturday 20 January 2024

All those of a certain age will have memories of listening to the radio. We are not talking about streaming podcasts or on-line feeds, we are gathering around a radio - be it mains or transistor - and listening in. So let's all listen in to our Sepia Saturday theme - the sound of music. Share your memories, whether they be of radios, music or anything else, on or around Saturday 20th January 2024 and add a link to the list below.

Thursday 11 January 2024

Sepia Saturday 706 : Saturday 13 January 2024

There was something very evocative about good, old-fashioned jukeboxes that can never be replaced by a streaming service. It was the very size and scale of them, all that glass and polished metal, the mechanical clankiness as the arm swung over and the disc fell into place .... ahh, the memories. And memories are what we are all about here on Sepia Saturday and this month we are listening to as well as looking at the sound of music. Let us have your visual memories on this theme (or any theme your care to select - just press the key and select the appropriate button) on or around Saturday 13th January 2024 and add a link to the list below.

Thursday 4 January 2024

Sepia Saturday 705 : Saturday 6th January 2024

It's 2024 and our Sepia Year starts off with a month devoted to the sound of music. Each week you will get n opportunity to share your old photographs which, in one way or another (or none at all) are related to the general theme of the sound of music. If you want an extra challenge you can try and match our weekly theme image. The choice is yours. For Sepia Saturday 705 simply post your posts on or around Saturday 6th January 2024 and add a link to the list below. And so you can look forward to what is around the sepia corner, here is a preview of the sepia themes in the weeks to come.
