Sepia Saturday 734 : 27 July 2024

Throughout July we have been on the sepia water and this week is your last chance to get out those old photographs of seaside, lakeside and rivers. Our theme photo this week features a woman in a rubber dinghy at Ostend back in the 1930s. You don't have to go to Ostend, nor do you have to get in a dinghy, all we are asking is that you share your old photographs on or around Saturday 27th July 2024 and add a link to the list below. And whilst you are at the seaside / lakeside / riverside you might want to buy a picture postcard so you can be ready for our next monthly theme - postcard memories.

Sepia Saturday 733 : 20 July 2024

We may not quite be on the water this week on Sepia Saturday, but we are the next best thing - on the sands. The seashore has been a magnet for children down the generations, with bucket and spade in hand, every child must feel a thrill when the seaside is in sight. This week we are celebrating this endless love affair here on Sepia Saturday and so we invite you to share your old photographs on or around Saturday 20th July 2024 and leave a link on the list below.  And as July turns into August, here is what is to come on Sepia Saturday.

Wednesday 10 July 2024

Sepia Saturday 732 : Saturday 13 July 2024

Gone fishing .... on the water. Our monthly theme is "on the water" and this week we are on the water (or just next to it to be accurate) doing a spot of fishing. All we ask is that you go fishing in your collection of old photographs to see if you have anything that fits the theme. If whatever you fish out doesn't fit the theme, don't worry, we don't really have rules here on Sepia Saturday. Just post an old photo and share a few new thoughts and do it on or around Saturday 13th July 2024 and add a link to the list below. And whilst you are waiting for something to bite, take a look at what lies under the surface for the rest of the month.

Saturday 6 July 2024

Sepia Saturday 731 : 6th July 2024

We are on the water this week on Sepia Saturday. Some of us, however, are in the water having stayed up far too late watching British election results and consequently forgetting to put the Sepia Saturday call up! My apologies. I will add the next few images as soon as I catch up on my sleep deficit. In the meantime jump into the water, or onto the water, this week by posting your submissions on or around Saturday 6th July 2024 and adding a link to the list below.

Friday 28 June 2024

Sepia Saturday : Saturday 29 June 2024

The last of our Busy Times theme and I am so busy I nearly forget to put the prompt up! I therefore rush to my open top tourer car, and dash off to the Coronado Country Club in San Diago and get there just in time to invite you to post your weekly posts on or around Saturday 29th June 2024 and add a link to the list below. We're off on the water next month so hopefully that will be more relaxing.

Thursday 20 June 2024

Sepia Saturday 729 : Saturday 22 June 2024

Busy times continue on Sepia Saturday in June and this week we are busy on the sands. Here at Sepia HQ the sun has just come out for the first time in what feels like six months, so I am tempted to head for the seaside. Before I go off to find my bucket and spade there is just time enough to invite you to take part in Sepia Saturday 729 by posting your old photos on or around Saturday 22 June 2024 and adding a link to the list below. Once you've done that you can settle down in your deck chair and take a look at what lies ahead here on Sepia Saturday.

Thursday 13 June 2024

Sepia Saturday 728 : 15 June 2024

The nearest we seem to get to a busy market day these days is when there is too much on-line traffic when you are trying to get on the Amazon site. Once upon a time, streets were full of stalls, carts, shoppers - and the occasional horse: those were busy times. Our Busy Times monthly theme continues with this image of a market day in Ireland. You can join in by posting an old image - on theme, off theme or whatever - on or around Saturday 15th June 2024 and adding a link to the list below. Whilst you are browsing the stalls, take a look at what is still to come in these busy times.

Tuesday 4 June 2024

Sepia Saturday 727 : 8th June 2024

It's a busy time this month on Sepia Saturday and this week we are busy getting votes for women. This week we pay tribute to those brave campaigners who took to the streets in favour of equal democratic rights for women - the Suffragette Movement. If you are in search for a theme you can choose pioneering women, demonstrations, marching feet - or any interpretation of the weekly or monthly theme you care to have. Just post your post on or around Saturday 8th June 2024 and add a link to the list below.  And then, without loosing step with your sisters and brothers, take a look at what is next on Sepia Saturday.

Tuesday 28 May 2024

Sepia Saturday 726 : 1st June 2024

June is a busy month here on Sepia Saturday. First of all there are five Saturdays in June which means more work for the Sepia Saturday theme image selector, and secondly, crowded streets and events are the monthly theme in question. This week we are with the crowds at a boxing match in Sydney, Australia. All you need to do is to choose your knock-out old image for this week and post it on or around Saturday 1st June 2024 and add a link to the list below. And whilst you are waiting for the fight to begin, take a look at what is coming in the rounds ahead.

Thursday 23 May 2024

Sepia Saturday 725 : 25 May 2024

It's time to sit down, relax and enjoy a pleasant drink before dinner. The May Sepia Saturday theme seemed to be various forms of transport and this week's theme image must have crept in because I decided it had been taken on a 1960s cruise ship. It is all very sophisticated and fashionable - very fitting for Sepia Saturday and its participants. So, pull up a chair, ask the waiter for a drink, and join in the fun by posting your post on or around Saturday 25th May 2024 and adding a link to the list below. Now that you are sipping your G&T, take a look at the menu for what is being served in June here on Sepia Saturday.

Thursday 16 May 2024

Sepia Saturday 724 : 18 May 2024

We continue our travels during May and this week we are going by car. Old car or new car, big car or small car - it matters not. Just choose whichever vehicle you want that is featured in an old photograph,  feature it in a post on or around Saturday 18th May 2024 and then add a link to the list below. Next week we say goodbye to May with drinks before dinner and then we move on to June which promises to be a very busy time. Here is a hint of what is ahead.

Thursday 9 May 2024

Sepia Saturday 723 : Saturday 11 May 2024

We are still out and about in May here on Sepia Saturday and this week we are out and about on our bicycles. There was nothing our Edwardian ancestors like doing quite so much as jumping on their bikes and peddling off in search of adventure - other than perhaps having their photographs taken whilst doing so. So this is your opportunity to share old photographs which may, in some strange and convoluted way, be linked to our monthly theme or our weekly prompt. Just jump on your bikes and post your posts on or around Saturday 11th May and add a link to the list below.  And whilst you are free-wheeling down hill, take a look at what lies around the Sepia corner.

Thursday 2 May 2024

Sepia Saturday 722 : Saturday 4th May 2024

It takes you back. Sat on a coach - not one of these new luxury air-conditioned jobs, but a real coach with horsehair padded seats - bumping down a country road and then stopping for some refreshments. Not a cup of chain-shop coffee, but a proper picnic with sandwiches and flies and scurrying ants. Yes, it's May and we are on the move - on our Sepia Saturday travels. Look through you old photos and if you have anything to match share it on or around Saturday 4th May 2024. If you don't have anything to match, worry not - share it anyway by adding a link to the list below. And when you've finished your coffee, get ready to be on the move again throughout May on Sepia Saturday.

Thursday 25 April 2024

Sepia Saturday 721 : Saturday 27 April 2024

I've no idea who these two are - as with most Sepians, old photographs seem to gravitate towards me like iron filings to a magnet. I am sure there is a back story somewhere, they are somebody's children, somebody's uncles, somebody's grandparents. Whoever they are, the photograph illustrates perfectly the fact that old photographs not only tell a personal story, they also tell a wider social story - the clothing, the features, the background: they are part of the two together beauty of old photographs. Whatever two together themes you might have, or indeed not have, now is your last opportunity, for the time being, to share them. Just post your post on or around Saturday 27th April 2024 and add a link to the list below.

As we leave April behind, are monthly theme changes and we are off on our travels again. Whether it be by coach, by bike, by car, or by cruise ship, our May theme is "On The Move", so get a move on and look out some suitable old photographs.

Thursday 18 April 2024

Sepia Saturday 720 : Saturday 20th April 2024

Our "Two Together" month continues with these two happy people enjoying the Spring Sunshine. There is no spring sunshine around here at the moment, but that doesn't matter because we can go back in time and find a time when the sun always shone. That's the beauty of Sepia Saturday - just find your happy memory, post it in a post on or around Saturday 20th April 2024 and add a link to the list below.

Thursday 11 April 2024

Sepia Saturday 719 : 13 April 2024

They glide across the dance floor like ... you can complete the simile yourselves. This week our April theme of two together takes to the dance floor. Your chosen old photograph may demonstrate all the grace and elegance of my Aunty Miriam and Uncle Frank (pictured on this week's theme image) or it may shake the rafters with a juggernaut of a jive. Whatever the step, whatever the music, just posts your posts on or around Saturday 13th April 2024 and add a link to the list below. And if you are sitting this one out, you might want to consider what is next here on Sepia Saturday.

Friday 5 April 2024

Sepia Saturday 718 : 6 April 2024

Our Two Together month starts with Harry and Annie. Annie was my father's sister and her husband, Harry was a former professional musician and singer. They embarked on married life in Bradford in 1933, and that time as two together came to a sad end in 1980 when Annie died. I like to think that they were reunited two years later when Harry also died. Between 1933 and 1980 there were lots of stories, lots of drama, lots of laughter .... and, of course, lots of photographs. Ninety one years after that first day as Two Together, they are two together again, asking people from around the world to share their old photographs on or around Saturday 6th April 2024 .... and asking them to add a link to the list below. Here are the rest of the month's weekly prompts.

Friday 29 March 2024

Sepia Saturday 717 : 30 March 2024

We're done with work here on Sepia Saturday. Well, after this week, we are done with our monthly work theme here on Sepia Saturday and it's not a moment too soon for some of us - as you can tell from this late call for proposals (and thank you Barbara for reminding me). Our weekly image shows some poor chap sat at a desk with an overflowing work tray (it is E D Morrel and not E D Mossel as my caption suggests - yet another sign of overwork). But forget the lateness and the mistakes - just try and come up with a picture of some old overworked guy whose gradually sinking under a pile of papers (all I need to do is to look in a mirror). Whatever you come up with, come up with it on or around Saturday 30th March 2024 and add a link to the list below. Next month we have a new theme for our old photos - two together. Here is a preview of the weekly images.

Wednesday 20 March 2024

Sepia Saturday 716 : Saturday 23 March 2024

Here we are, the middle of March and we are still at work. You will recall that "Going To Work" is our March 2024 theme and this week's prompt features a tailor at work (a "tailor" and not a "Taylor" - apologies for that daft caption). All you need to do is to look through your old photographs, pin down a suitable image, cut it to size, and everything will be all sewed up! Do all that on or around Saturday 23 March 2024 and add a link to the list below and I will be well suited.  Before I have chance to add any more daft links, here is the remaining March prompt and the four we will be using in April.
