Sepia Saturday 610 : 26 February 2022

 

Things are pretty miserable in the world today. There are international tensions, there are pandemics, there are the consequences of climate change: there are more than enough reasons to make us all frown. What we need is cheering up, and one of the best ways to do that is to enjoy some traditional concert party entertainment. Our theme image for Sepia Saturday 610 features a 1924 photograph of the Humming Birds Concert Party. Another way to cheer yourself up is to post an old photograph in our weekly Sepia Saturday virtual exhibition wall. A Ford Sedan and an unknown man - it has a certain poetical feel to it. Over the centuries poetry has been a means by which people can express their emotions, record their hopes and fears, their achievements and their failures. Equally, for the last 150 or so years, photography has been a means of doing the same thing, so this week for Sepia Saturday we are asking you to contribute your own visual poems. They can be about the love that exists between a man (or woman) and their automobiles ... or indeed anything else. Just share some old photographs and some new thoughts and link your posts to the list below, on or around Saturday 19th February 2022.

Sepia Saturday is an anthology rather than a single visual poem, so here are the next two prompt images for you to think about.

Sepia Saturday 608 : Saturday 12 February 2022

 

First of all my sincere apologies for missing the Sepia Saturday prompt for last week. It is only the second time I have missed it in twelve years, and I wouldn't mind if I had a good excuse - broken leg/computer/life - but alas the real reason was just that my mind was elsewhere, doing nothing in particular. For our prompt image this week I have chosen one of the collection from the Texas State Archives which is featured on their Flickr Commons stream. Other than stamping their mark on the image, they tell us nothing about it: neither date, place nor subject. So this lady in the library represents all those unknown people and places that feature on our sepia contributions. As usual, all you need to do is to share your sepia contribution, on or near Saturday 12th February 2022, and add a link to the list below.

If I did manage to get away to the Dolomites last week - I am writing this a pre-posting it, just in case - I should be getting back to my desk at some stage this coming weekend. Our Sepia Saturday header this week features another image from our "Photo Archive Of The Month" - Camden Public Library in Maine in the USA. The 1899 print features, rather appropriately, two children enjoying the snow. It may be appropriate because - depending on the outcome of a lateral flow test tomorrow - by Saturday I might be tramping through the snow in the Dolomites drawing my grandchildren behind me on a sledge. You need neither a positive or negative test to take part in Sepia Saturday, all that you need is an old photo and a link to the list below.
