Sepia Saturday 284 : 20th June 2015

I am away on holiday for a couple of weeks but hopefully the weekly Sepia prompts will continue to appear, thanks to a little pre-planning and the wonders of wifi. Who knows, I might even write a letter home describing my adventures (note to self - don't forget to pack the typewriter). Our prompt this week couldn't be more self-explanatory if you were to type it out in capital letters. Sepia Saturday 283 : 13 June 2015

Our Sepia Saturday theme image this week shows a group of construction workers celebrating the completion of a railway tunnel on the Irish rail network. It might prompt you to dig into your own photographic archives and come up with photographs of tunnels, construction projects, or dates carved into the stonework. It might also prompt you to share some other image which you feel is connected in one way or another to the theme image. All you have to do is to post your post on or around Saturday 13th June and then link your post to the list below. But before you start the sepia project, take a look at what is around the next bend in the lines.

But for now just concentrate on Sepia Saturday 283 and before too long I am sure you will see a sepia light at the end of the tunnel.

Sepia Saturday 282 : 6 June 2015

Welcome to Sepia Saturday 282 - post your posts on or around Saturday 6th June 2015. You might need to give a good deal of thought this week to the theme image before making your move and posting your post (and then, of course, adding a link to the list below). The man in the photograph is a famous musician, so you can put the games away and get the concertina out if you so wish. Whatever you decide to go with it will be a gambit we all look forward to examining.

But before you make your first move, here is what lies ahead in the game over the next few weeks.

Sepia Saturday 281 : 30 May 2015

I am having to put this call together rather quickly as my Good Lady Wife insists that we have to make some apple pies this afternoon. How appropriate then, that we have as our theme image for Sepia Saturday 281 a 1972 archive photograph from the Flickr Collection of the Cloyne and District Historical Society of Canada. In may put you in mind of baking, kitchens, or pies : all it puts me in mind of is that I had better hurry up and report for duty in the kitchen! Whilst I am making pastry and chopping up apples, all you need to do is to find a suitable old photograph, feature it in a post, and post your post on or around Saturday 30th May 2015. Once the pie is ready you can add a link to your post on the Linky List below.

The themes for Sepia Saturday 280 - post your posts on or around Saturday 23 May 2015 - include boys, girls and dances. The caption on the old vintage postcard (which is here wrongly attributed to Flickr Commons but in fact comes from my own collection) reads "In Leap Year - The Ladies after a little wine and tobacco join the gentlemen in the drawing room". So another potential theme you could have is that of "reverses" - occasions when the usual arrangements are reversed. Whatever theme you go with - or ignore, the choice is yours - just post your posts and then add a link to the Linky List below. Here is what is just around the corning:

Sepia Saturday 279 : 16th May 2015

First of all let me thank all those Sepians who responded - both on this Blog and on our Facebook page - to my post last week about the future of Sepia Saturday. If I have understood things correctly, everyone wants to keep Sepia Saturday going as a Blog and with weekly themes. If that is the case, so be it. We can perhaps make a few changes - I particularly like the idea of Sepians putting forward theme images - and I will continue to welcome these over the coming weeks. Marilyn and I will then put our heads together and come up with some proposals.

For the moment we have Sepia Saturday 279 - which features a picture of an old Australian blast furnace - to deal with (post your posts on or around Saturday 16th May 2015). You might want to go with safety, you might want to go with danger or you may want to find something within the image yourself to act as your own theme. And there is always, and always will be, the option of ignoring the theme and just sharing an old photograph. 

In order to encourage forward planning, here is a preview of the next three Sepia Saturday themes.

Sepia Saturday 278 : 9 May 2015

Our theme image for Sepia Saturday 278 - post your posts on or around Saturday 9th May and add a link to the list below - is a little old and tired. It comes from the Flickr Commons archives of the Romanian photographer, Costica Acsinte. I thought it would provide a suitable prompt to remind us of those old and tired images in our collections. Images that are past their best or in need of a little care and attention. You might want to share images that have faded, images that have disintegrated or even images that have been restored. Or, as always, you can ignore the theme and just share any old image you want.

And talking about becoming old and tired, I have been giving some thought about Sepia Saturday itself. Marilyn and I have been sharing our thoughts about the whole Sepia Saturday roadshow and trying to decide whether it is still fit for purpose. It is right that we have a review, but it is equally right that such a review should involve as many Sepians as possible. At this stage I don't want to start listing definite options - because I am sure that there are options that neither Marilyn or myself have even thought of. But perhaps you might like to share your general thoughts about the future of Sepia Saturday as the first stage in pulling together a list of options for the future. Do you want Sepia Saturday to stay or go, do you want themes or no themes, should it be a blog or should it be Social Media based? Reading back what I have just written I see that I have used the phrase "images that are past their best", a phrase that should be banned from the Sepia Saturday lexicon. We lovers of old images believe that no image can ever be past their best, they simply get more interesting as they get older. Like a lot of bloggers I know.
