Sepia Saturday 650 : 3 December 2022

First of all, thanks for your thoughtful comments following on from last week's consultation. A lot of Sepia Saturdays have come and gone and I am sometimes guilty of forgetting what a great little group we have going here. I will spend a week or two weighing things up, but my gut-instinct is to say "Let's carry on until the last of us Sepia's finally curls up like an old print that has been handled too much" I want to go through your comments more carefully and see what we might change, what we might keep, and what we might introduce. I will get back to you with some suggestions, but until then it is business as usual.

Our theme image this week shows the original Sepia Saturday Executive Committee at the meeting that saw the launch of the blog, all those years ago. Take a look at those faces, work out who's who if you want, and decide what they make you think of. And that is your theme (if you want one). Whether you follow the theme or not, post your post on or around Saturday 3 December and add a link to the list below. And here is the next theme image, and I will add another one before the sun sets on another day.

Nice to be back here after a busy fall. I don't have the group photo, but I do have the dishes used during "Those Memorable Charboneau Family Dinners."

A group photograph from 1901 with mini bios of the teachers at the Athens Academy in Tennessee. My grandfather Albert Cleage's brother Henry was one of them.

Why do people in old photographs always look miserable?

Continuing my series of Sally's letters to Gustaf (her future husband, but back then still just 'friend') during his year in military service (1925) - combined with a number of group photos.

Yesterday, rather than many days of yore...photos of people having fun, some making faces, rather than being serious.

Alan, your link doesn't take you to your blog and once I found it, I was unable to comment.

Wait, all of our links are taking us to our Blogger bio. Not to our post!!!

Not true, disregard above. But Alan's link isn't working. The rest are.

How serious these folks are. It reminds me of a faculty photo I was in in Japan Everyone else was serious. No one told me not to smile.

Thanks, Alan, for another great theme image which has inspired me to write a story about a similar somber family photograph. Only with musical instruments.

Thank you for continuing the Sepia Saturday institution, Alan. Auntie Miriam would be proud. And as Kristin noted, your link is misdirecting us to our own blogger edit page.

My photograph shows a family with a reason to be looking serious, as I believe it was taken to mark a funeral of a husband and father.

Sorry to not have a post by Alan, but I finally did read what he'd said under today's prompt (I admit I usually grab the photo as soon as it's shown and don't look at the actual week.) That this was the group that came up with SS, I highly doubt. They don't seem to have a tweak of a smile among them, and I happen to know there are frequently some fun things happening here!
