Sepia Saturday 137 : 4th August 2012

You can't get away from the Olympics these days and here on Sepia Saturday we are still running around all over the place. Most people run for exercise and for the good of their health, but there are some people who occasionally need to run as part of their jobs. Our archive picture this week features a Library of Congress picture from the Bain Collection entitled "Police Running Race" and dating from between 1910 and 1915. For those who like to follow a theme, there are several on offer : policemen, running, games, jumping and men in trilby hats stood around watching other people do all the work. As always, the choice is yours: and if you prefer you could avoid the athletics and avoid the Olympics and make up your own theme. Just post your posts on or around Saturday 4 August 2012, link the post to the list below and race off and visit as many other Sepia posters as you can manage.

If you like to plan ahead, here is a sneak preview of the next two Sepia Saturday themes:

That gives you something to think about, but for now just concentrate on the race ahead.

This seems like a good week for a "Post From London."

Not so much cycling as riding!

The two that I have submitted are off topic this week. The first is a Tin Pot Valley story about sneaking off to the circus. The second one is Vintage Oregon Postcards from Uncle John's collection. Can't wait to read all of yours!

My first thoughts of policemen running were of The Keystone Cops but then another policeman panted into view!

Oh I do enjoy these kinds of themes where there are so many other avenues to travel, and then along the way you just land on something really special! Enjoy your weekend Alan.....!

A musician running from a policeman just isn't in my photo collection, so instead, something musical from around the same era.

So glad you went with an Olympic theme.

I am sort of on theme but the photo of one is all I can do. It is a good theme.

I love this SS more every week. No pictures of my swim career (local) but found just what I wanted to blog about.

@ kristin:
My heart stopped as I was reading your comment here that you were showing "a photo of my daughter pole...vaulting". I thought it might be "pole dancing"...

I'm back from a family vacation. We had a lovely time.

Staying with the Olympic theme, I'm posting some pics of Utah Olympic Park from our vacation. (Oh no! Vacation photos! Yawn!) No, it's not like that. They don't go on forever! Hope you enjoy!
