Sepia Saturday 462 : Saturday 23 March 2019

We are dancing along this week with a somewhat odd couple - the girl on the left is brewery heiress Grania Guinness, and the main on the right is Australian actor Cyril Ritchard. The story behind their odd pose has been lost, but that doesn't matter because they are inviting you to share you old photographs: whether they be of dancing, odd poses or anything you like. Sepia Saturday 461 : 16 March 2019

Our Sepia Saturday theme image this week is an energetic affair with arms, limbs and bodies moving all over the place. It comes from the Flickr stream of the National Library of Australia and it features square dancing at Earl's Court Ballroom, St Kilda, Victoria in 1950. All you need to do is to listen to the rhythm, dance along with the beat, take your partner and find a matching photo from your collection. Once you have, include it in a blog post, and post your post on or around Saturday 16th March 2019. Then add a link to the list below.

Sepia Saturday 460 : 9th March 2019

Our Sepia Saturday theme image this week once again comes from the Flickr collection of the National Library of Australia and has the title, "Nurse reading a book on the upstairs verandah of The Family Hotel in Sheridan Street, Gundagai, New South Wales / Charles Gabriel, between 1887 and 1927" After a title as long and exhaustive as that you might want to lie down and read a book. But before you do so, spend a moment or two looking through your old photographs to see if you have anything to match this theme image. If you have, put it in a blog post and post your post on or around Saturday 9th March 2019 and then add a link to the list below.

Sepia Saturday 458 : 23 February 2019

I seem to be on familiar territory with this week's Sepia Saturday theme image - in the comfortable surroundings of a cosy wine merchants establishment in Paris. The photograph is entitled "Marchand de vin rue Boyer" and is by the French photographer, Eugène Atget (1857-1927). The photograph is held in the archives of the George Eastman Museum and forms part of their Flickr Commons stream. They estimate the date of the photograph to be around 1910-11.

As usual, we invite you to look at the image and find something within it to act as a connection with an old image from your own collections. Let your thoughts flow like fine French wine and share with us some of your best vintage photographs. The photograph comes from the collection of the George Eastman Museum on Flickr Commons and is by the French photographer Eugene Atget (1857-1927). You know what it's like when you get back from holiday - there is no food in the cupboard, the fridge is empty, and for some reason the gas oven isn't working. You have to do the best you can with whatever is available: get a few twigs, light a fire and boil up some privet leaf soup.
