Our transport theme continues and this week we are messing about on boats. Or to be more exact, we are messing about with old pictures of boats. You can't stop me once I get a theme going, so welcome to my transport theme. For the next few weeks, Sepia Saturday is being taken over by modes of transport and this week we are on the train. As always, you can get on the train and reflect it in your chosen old photograph, or you can nonchalantly watch it pass you by and post whatever old photograph you choose to. Sepia Saturday 655 : Saturday 14 January 2023

This week on Sepia Saturday we have an open theme, you can post whatever old photo you like. Just post the post and link the link on or around Saturday 14th January 2023.

Sepia Saturday 654 : Saturday 7 January 2023

 

Sorry about last week - I got dragged into the celebrations of Christmas a little too much and the house was full of visitors and grandchildren and my Sepia duties got pushed out of the way. We are back this week with a Sepia theme that reminds us that those olden days could often be cruel. Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums have a collection of photographs of young criminals - children in many cases, sent to prison for stealing the most basic of things. There is a beauty in some of these old photographs which is only matched by the sadness of the circumstances that brought them into being.  As usual, you can follow the theme, or ignore it - all you have to do is to share an old photograph on or around Saturday 7th January 2023, and add a link to the list below.

Our theme image for Sepia Saturday 652 depicts a radio communications officer surrounded by what at the time would be all the latest communications equipment. Our themes are therefore communications in their widest sense and all manner of technology and equipment. Or it can be radio or it can be ships: with Sepia Saturday, you can be as obtuse or creative as you like. Over and out.

Our theme image reflects traditions and Christmas, and what could be more traditional than cart loads of turkeys on their way to market! You can make of the theme image what you will, and follow it in any direction you choose. The only essential is that you all have the very best of a sepia Christmas time.

The only thing I know about this week's theme image was a single word written on the back of the photograph: "Granny". The photograph is one of the ones I have acquired from who knows where - old photographs are attracted to me like iron filings to a magnet - and therefore it is no granny of mine nor anyone that I know. But she looks like formidable lady, and therefore she is perfect for our Sepia Saturday theme for this week. So share your photos of grannies and formidable ladies on or around Saturday 10th December 2022 and add a link to the list below.

Sepia Saturday 650 : 3 December 2022

First of all, thanks for your thoughtful comments following on from last week's consultation. A lot of Sepia Saturdays have come and gone and I am sometimes guilty of forgetting what a great little group we have going here. I will spend a week or two weighing things up, but my gut-instinct is to say "Let's carry on until the last of us Sepia's finally curls up like an old print that has been handled too much" I want to go through your comments more carefully and see what we might change, what we might keep, and what we might introduce. I will get back to you with some suggestions, but until then it is business as usual.

Our theme image this week shows the original Sepia Saturday Executive Committee at the meeting that saw the launch of the blog, all those years ago.
