Three men at a cattle sale in Australia in the 1940s. One says to the other, "What are you looking for, here today?" "Some nice fat beef cattle". he replies, "and what about you?" "Some prime hogs would be useful", he replies. They turn to the third man, a stranger in these parts. "And what about you stranger?", He takes a minute to consider his response, looks around, and then says: "'m looking for some old images to share in this weeks's Sepia Saturday challenge".  If he finds any, let's hope he posts a post on or around Saturday 29th August and links a post to the list below.

Sepia Saturday 534 : 22 August 2020

 

I have been waiting for so long for the bus, I have forgotten where I am supposed top be going to. Being Sepia Saturday, however, I can go wherever I want to. If I choose to, I can be guided by the prompt and therefore look out old photographs of buses or transport or men carrying suitcases. There again, I can just jump on the first bus that comes past and see where it takes men to. That, as always, is the beauty of Sepia Saturday. It takes a big man to make a big anchor. These two big men are in the process of making the enormous anchor for the steam ship Mauretania in the Swan Hunter shipyards on the River Tyne in 1907. They are here to invite you to submit your old pictures of big men, anchors of all sizes, chains and even swans: or indeed anything else you can think of that might in some way or another connect up with this theme image. We may all be locked down, denied the opportunity to see the world, but there is one form of travel that is still open to us all, without risk, and without the need for PPE. That is, of course, time travel; and as far as time travel is concerned, Sepia Saturday is your travel agent. This week we are tempting you with the delights of a ride on a electric tramway in Wellington, New Zealand. As with all Sepia Saturday prompts, however, you are not limited to New Zealand, or trams, or cliffs, curves or posts: you can go to whatever destination you want. Sepia Saturday 531. : Saturday 1 August 2020

I'm late, I'm late, for a very important date ..... The reason why the Sepia Saturday prompt is late up this week is not because I forgot, nor is it because Blogger has been messing with the settings: it is because I stopped off for some provisions at the Eagle Fruit Store, and the very act of shopping during these difficult times left me so exhausted that I had to book in for a restful night at the Capital Hotel in Lincoln Nebraska. Now, fully refreshed, I am ready to receive your submissions for this week's Sepia Saturday. No face coverings required, the only social distancing is by time. Post your posts on or around Saturday 1st August 2020, and add a link to the list below. And, once again, my thanks to Barbara for arranging a call to my hotel room to wake me up.

Now that I am on my way again, I am due to catch a tram to next week's Sepia Saturday location, but whilst I am waiting for the tram to arrive, I will go in search for a second prompt image.

Sepia Saturday 530 : 25 July 2020

Our Sepia Saturday theme image this week features a rather clever wartime invention - a bike with a sidecar. Far better than a tandem, where both parties have to pedal, this contraption allows the passenger to sit in comfort, whilst the other half of the team provides the motive power. So our theme encompasses inventions, bicycles, wheels, fur coats and hats of every variety. Or you can simply sit back, let the others do all the thematic pedalling and post any old photograph you want to. All you have to do is to post your post on or around Saturday 25 July and add a link to the list below.

Whilst you are sitting back in comfort you can always take a moment or two to see what is coming next week - which gives the poor cyclist the opportunity to go in search for a theme image for the week after.

Sepia Saturday 529 : 18th July 2020

There comes a point in everyone's life when you just have to take a deep breath and dive in. If you want to be the apple of someone's eye you need to box clever. Yes, if you look at an old image for long enough, some silly puns will come into your mind. This week we invite you to look at this splendid old image of a box label from a Californian fruit farm and come up with, not a silly pun, but with an old image of your own.
