Sepia Saturday 342 : August 2016 - Love And Marriage

As Cyril and Madge walk down the stone steps of their wedding venue they launch themselves into a new phase of their lives. In the same way, we here at Sepia Saturday launch ourselves into a new phase of our lives with our experimental Sepia Saturday monthly call. The theme for August 2016 is "Love And Marriage" and what we would like you to do is to share your old photographs which fit in one convoluted way or another with that theme. You can post once, or twice or as many times as you want. You can post on Thursday morning, Tuesday afternoon or even on a Saturday. You can do more or less whatever you want - after all this is Sepia Saturday. All we ask is that - if you are posting more than one post in the month - you make this clear in your Linky Link heading.

We will try this approach for a couple of months and see how it goes. As always we value you feedback. Here is a sneak preview of our September prompt.

You will need to excuse any bumps and inconsistencies in the normal smooth running of the Sepia Saturday machine whilst we try this new format out. But let us hope the new direction we are launching ourselves in is just as happy and successful as the marriage of Madge and Cyril.

Hi, Alan - I look forward to participating in the Love & Marriage theme, but what has happened to the original prompt 342 for this weekend - with the portrait of the young girl? I have something already prepared for that, so will get my thinking cap on, on how to use it!

I'm struggling to see how reducing SS to a monthly prompt will help, but anyway, here's my contribution. See you in September!

I have used the two prompts we have had for week 342 - so here is my theme Dreaming of Love & Marriage. .

Sue : I will bring back the prompt we originally had for 342 at some point in the future if that will help.
Jo : It makes it much easier from my point of view. And don't forget you can submit as many links as you want during the month.

A wedding party from the 1940s. I only know two of the people but they all look good.

It will take me awhile to find the wedding photos I have collected, but I wanted to say I'll be participating this month. My post this week has nothing to do with weddings.

Just marriage documents for ancestors...so glad they got married back then!

The wedding theme is curiously appropriate for this month, which I will explain in due time later. Meanwhile this weekend I have something odd, both marital and musical.

I went with the original photo prompt of the young lady since I already had my post written for that one!

I've started with the Love and marriage of my maternal grandparents.

I've posted number 1 of this love and marriage month. Because this is such a broad subject, I feel I can probably scratch up a few posts on it...say a month's worth. There are so many ways to go with the theme...this week I started with the dress and ended up laughing my head off at "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" which I never properly respected. You never know where Sepia Saturday will lead you.

A tale of a society wedding in 1913 - with a sad end.

The first of the wedding photos I have for this month's prompt. And indeed the strangest.

By the time we get to the end of this all-in-one month, the sign-ups and the comments are going to be a mess! Keep the same prompt photo, but it should appear newly each week labeled week 1, week 2, etc. Otherwise by the end of the month we'll be sifting through 50+ names and comments! The all-in-one theme for each month is fine, but the weeks need to be separated to keep some semblance of order. That's my thought, anyway, for whatever its worth. :)

I am posting my third contribution this month, much earlier than I planned but I have had so much trouble with this draft (losing it online and having to start again), plus other blogger hassles) I just wanted to get it out of the way. I hope it has been worth all the time I have spent on it!

Just to say, I like the suggestion from La Nightingail about repeating the same prompt image each week of a monthly theme. Hopefully that will not involve you in much work, but will avoid a long list of comments to wade through as the month progresses.

Part 2. Leftovers from Part 1. This prompt is very long-lasting.

Gail. Good Suggestion. I will try it for Week 3. I am going to put the monthly theme for September together now.

I had some blog posts already written so I'm using those to post until they run out! It's all a barrel of monkeys and it's my circus, my monkeys.

This week I can offer some postcards of husband and wife entertainers.

Looking through my photos I discovered I have quite a few wedding photos. So here is #2

Alan - your week 2 entry is the same as your week 1 entry. What happened?

Little Nell said...

My first visit this month, but I think we should just keep one prompt picture with all of the contributions below in Mr Linky. Some of us will only be producing a post once or twice this month, not every week and it really will get messy if we have to dart between weeks to catch up with posts. Inevitably that way some posters will get missed out. The whole point of dong thoi was to simplify it, so let’s stick with this for ths month at least.

Alan Burnett said...

Sorry about the false link everyone - that is now corrected.
And yes, Marilyn is right - let us try things as they are for a full month and then evaluate things and tweak if and where necessary.

My offering for this months theme is up, hope I've done everything correctly. It's great to organised to participate this month.

The most fun I've had this week, which had no love or marriage, just love of mountains, good friends, and chocolate. My vote is to only have one week's worth of postings and comments at a time.

Helen Killeen Bauch McHargue said...

I could keep on with this prompt for another month but I'm calling it quits with number 4. I think it was fun to have the prompt for a longer time as I'll repeat that once I start thinking along a certain line, more ideas and thoughts come to mind than there is room for in one prompt. Somehow, this seems a more leisurely pace also. Could the reason be that I'm staying put for a while instead of traveling and trying to deal with blogger from my iPad?

My final contribution to a very enjoyable series - Wedding Fashions 1941-1971,finishing with the story of my own wedding. I like having a theme for the month. RE the point that having four separate links/comments for each week could be confusing - how would that differ from the system in the past where we might have to go back to recap on previous week's posts? I feel posting the prompt of a monthly theme every week in the series means that other bloggers might be attracted to take part.

Number 2 and final submission for this theme. It was fun.

Many different types of weddings.

My 4th and final post for the August theme.

My 4th Wedding for the month. Long time family friends and once again my uncle Louis was the best man.

Kristin said...

Oh, and I like having the whole month in one place. I can see who I've visited and who is new without switching back and forth.

Barbara Rogers said...

Ah, August is almost over! Here are three generations of weddings, and a couple of rings from my family.

Sean Bentley said...

And coming in last by a nose.... what does my post have to do with love and marriage? Well, it touches on aunts, uncles, and cousins by marriage, how's that?

Alan Burnett said...

Here is my final contribution to Love and Marriage month. As you can see, we are going to try the monthly approach for another month (September will be Work and Play month) and then see what everyone thinks. I have to say keeping the same prompts for a month does make things a lot easier for Marilyn and myself : choosing the themes, designing the artwork, writing the call posts and administering the system can be quite a task at times. But we are open to any suggestions for improving the experience of Sepians old and new.

A final beautiful bride and groom to end the month. He was an adventurer who I've written about before.

Little Nell said...

My final contribution, and I just realised that I haven’t been numbering my links each time. I wonder if that matters. I agree with Alan, let’s stick with this for September at least and then take stock again. Also, if anytone wants to take on the facebook page let me know. On one occasion recently it was Bruno and I nattering away to each other, and I don’t think anyone noticed - made a change from talking to myself I suppose. People say they want to keep the page, everyone time we ask if it’s worth carrying on, but few support it.

I'm still going with the originals prompts. I had them written already for weeks 3 and 4 for August.

My belated contribution to this wonderful theme which happily coincided with an important celebration.
