Sepia Saturday 91 : Saturday 10 September 2011

This photograph entitled "President Wilson on a Speaking Tour" dates from 1919 and is part of the on-line collection of the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Archives made available via Flickr Commons. As always it will provide a variety of potential prompts for all those in search of a theme for Sepia Saturday 91. But what I like most of all about it is the contrasting action taking place within the photograph itself. The secret service man at the bottom left stares out of shot, the man at the top left keeps a watchful eye on his President, whilst the President and the admiring couple of the right make up a delightful triangle on interaction. Sometimes a good photograph can provide almost as much action as a short film! Whatever kind of action (or inaction) you are featuring in your old images, let them speak out by posting them on or around Saturday 10th September and linking them to the list below.
SEPIA SATURDAY is a weekly meme which encourages bloggers to publish and share old images and photographs. All that is required is for contributors to post an old image (it doesn't have to be in sepia) and provide a few words in explanation. If you could provide a link back to the Sepia Saturday Blog and visit as many of the other contributors as you can, it would also be appreciated. There is no weekly theme, as such, but some people like to use the archive image published with the weekly call as a kind of theme. There is no requirement to adopt such an approach : the choice of image is entirely up to you. Once you have published your Sepia Saturday post, add a link to that post to the Linky List published each week and leave a comment to let everyone know you are joining in.

Completely on theme this week, though perhaps I'm misreading the intent.

I went with politicians and security for the theme this week. I started to use the new interfacing for Blogger, having a bit of difficulty getting back to SepiaSaturday, hope it worked....

The train now leaving...!

I used the new Blogger interface too, and I like both the cleaner page layout and larger box for input. My entry this week is sort of on theme, but nothing to do with trains or politicians - best to leave the latter well alone!

Mike - can't access your bloga again this week.

Perhaps next time I'll manage in one.

I've taken triangles encapsulating action within the image as the theme

This is such a brilliant idea! I'm working with oral history projects here in the UK, and photographs are such a precious medium of memory. Long may they be preserved.

Happy Sepia Saturday everyone. My submission for the week is up. I'm mot theming again this week, but offering a bit of detective work.

Glad to be back. As usual, I am steering clear of the theme this week and following up my last Sepia Saturday post with a picture taken by the Box Brownie. Looking forward to getting round to visit everyone this week, sorry for my recent absence.

I descended......... almost into madness as I searched for the appropropiate links - am i a compulsiove themer? I’ve gone slightly more magazine style in my post this week - influenced by TonyZ and Ticklebear I think!

No theme for me. I am still working on a continuation from last week.

Completely off theme but I have an examination of an outdated fashion for women in the 1860s.

Alan I can't access your blog from the Linsky widget - it says I need permission!

If this week's topic had been 'soldiers and horses in a quiet suburban street' I would have been on-topic.

A 'quickie' this week.

My post is right on theme. Presidents and train stations. Love that photo.

Hello Alan, hope your travels are going well. I'm slightly on theme....if one included everything going on in your highly action photo we'd have chapters for a novel!

I'm having trouble with Mike Burnett and Rosie as well. BUT! Worse thing ever is when trying to read Alan's it says I don't have access to view it. Hmmm, what in the world is that all about?

Wow, this was a tough one! Most of my older photos are posed shots and the more recent ones ....

Not movement in my photos this week, but the hidden thoughts in the pose....having some computer "issues: " so hope this works this week.

Thanks Postcardy I'll give it a try... hopefully I'll be able to view it with the link you provided!

i changed computer, went from Vista to Windows 7 and lost some data in the process...

i also changed interface on blogger recently, and i love it. my only problem was with scheduling my post ahead of time as Blogger would insist i was on the west coast, not the east coast... thus changing my time zone!!

anyway, i survived and i'm giving you this week a SHORT post!! no trains nor politicians for me, BUT-I-AM-STILL-ON-THEME!! sort of...

sure, LITLLE NELL will blame it on me and Tony... means i'll have to check it out to see if i can feel my imprint on this now.

That is great picture, Alan! I went with photos that tell their own story and they happen to be about Guam in 1945 during WWII from my FIL Troy.

Thank you everybody, for leaving me so many comments last week. I've have visited most of you and will finish up this week.

Take care,

Kathy M.

I just love the gazes in this photo. I have been quite busy these past weekends and have a lot of catching up to do on Sepia Saturday. I am off to cart children around today but I HAD to join up! I will be back Sunday evening (with a glass of wine) to enjoy all the entries!

I've been away from the computer for awhile, but I'm back and on theme this week :)

Darnit this photo works well with a photo I already did for another sepia sat post, so I gave a reminder to that one and put up an off topic one along side it.

Great presidential photo! And you're right about the action displayed and how it moves your eyes throughout the image.

I did trains before but I did manage to find a photo with stairs in it.

Sheila @ A Postcard a Day said...

No trains, no stairs, but guards. My visits to everyone else will be a little delayed because of a particularly busy weekend, but I will get there.

I loved your post, and if you stop to think there is truly something going on in every photo. At least at that time someone was breathing and thinking. Mine is sentimental as I will be visiting with my dear uncle's family today.

Looks like I'm the late one this weekend. It's still Saturday somewhere I think.

I took up the challenge of Alan's "Something is happening" theme, and went for a different spin on another mystery photo. My exercise in creative writing. Enjoy.

More weirdness from my mind...thanks for the place to share.

I am new to Sepia Saturday (like the title!) and look forward to featuring my own family photographs plus seeing those of fellow bloggers.
