An odd little photograph this week. It clearly states that it is "The Orchestra, Town Hall Section, Southern General Hospital, Oxford". The Southern General Hospital was one of the many special military hospitals established during the First World War. Based in the Examinations School of Oxford University, it provided care for some 336 officers and 1,210 other ranks. The "orchestra" featured in the photograph looks a rather grand chamber, but whether it is in the Examination School or perhaps Oxford Town Hall, I am not sure. We have guests coming to visit us from Oxford this weekend, so I will see if they can identify the exact location. I doubt even they will be able to shed light on how this photograph found its way into Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library Archives. Whatever the reason, there are an abundance of possible prompts for the "themers" amongst us. Just help yourself to a theme and post your post on or around Saturday 21 May 2011.
SEPIA SATURDAY is a weekly meme which encourages bloggers to publish and share old images and photographs. All that is required is for contributors to post an old image (it doesn't have to be in sepia) and provide a few words in explanation. If you could provide a link back to the Sepia Saturday Blog and visit as many of the other contributors as you can, it would also be appreciated. There is no weekly theme, as such, but some people like to use the archive image published with the weekly call as a kind of theme. There is no requirement to adopt such an approach : the choice of image is entirely up to you. Once you have published your Sepia Saturday post, add a link to that post to the Linky List published each week and leave a comment to let everyone know you are joining in.

As I'm going to be busy this weekend I've posted a little early. Managed to stay on theme this week. @Alan - hope your Oxford friends can tell you more of the photo you shared.
From a cathedral organ to university sport was the best I could do. Hope no-one wants me to explain the game of cricket.
I have something from World War II.
It's only a few hours til, Saturday commences here, so I'm just a little early this week. I, too, have grasped this week's theme with both hands and run away with it. In fact, I had difficulty knowing when to stop. I hope readers make it to the end!
The day I stick to one of your themes, I think pigs might fly. I am a hopeless case - sorry!
No theme here, just a quick post this week as my boys are being ... well boys! Karen
This is just a NOTE to explain that I’ve bought a musical TONE to the proceedings, but only a BREVE one. ACCORDION to the rules that’s OK :)
From my family files, Dr. Louis Cleage plays the organ. Bingo.
Thanks Alan for a great theme. An orchestra, but no pool table.
I've got a photo that may have graced the inside of a soldier's helmet and brought him serenity while in hospital.... squeeked into the theme by a hair. :-)
The theme picture and Brett's post have inspired me to show some postcards of a WW1 military hospital that was located quite near where I live.
Posted part two of my series. None of it connects to this week's theme, or billards, organs, men, or sepia, but the photos are old. lol.
DONE!! SOMETHING HOSPITAL RELATED...COME SEE AND TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK. AM I RIGHT, OR AM I RIGHT?

I see someone actually sitting on the organ bench which means they might have been playing while the fellows played. I'm imagining the same sound they play on the organ at baseball games when they're trying to get the fans fired up.
My submission is of Alfred Kallman, house painter/miner, in a tour car.
This might be some sort of competition. They look quite serious!
Apologies for my recent absence.I should be back in my sepia saddle next week.
My first time here! Fun. I didn't follow the theme but love the shot you selected. I came up with one of my favorite family pictures.
I did it again-put the wrong post on this weeks Sepia Saturday . Is there any way to change it once it's done? I went back and re-entered but sorry to anyone who had to look at that same darn zentangle again.
Barbara
cool building, doubt its still standing? mines off theme too but not too bad for typing and a broken wrist, eh
great picture. And I am happy to be back again ;)
Sigh - sorry for the radio silence recently. Anyway my post isn't related to your theme this week -- what a cool shot! -- but what the hey. I'm hoping it does double duty for next week as well, Memorial Day!
