Sepia Saturday 110 : Saturday 28 January 2012

Thanks for all of your theme suggestions last week: we should have enough to get us through the cold winter months. I will work my way through them in the coming weeks. This week I am taking a theme from the list provided by STEPH over at LADIES IN MONOCHROME : Theatre. The photograph is taken from the collection of the Cheshire County (New Hampshire)  Historical Society and comes, as usual, via Flickr Commons. Although it is called the Majestic Theatre, it seems that the building was only ever used as a cinema and at its height it boasted that "two miles of film were shown at each performance" to the people of Keene and Cheshire County.

But if you want a theme for Sepia Saturday 110 you can put on your own performance with any interpretation of theatre you care to choose. Just post your post on or around Saturday the 28th of January 2012 and add a link to the list below. All I need to say now is, "Tickets please".

Okay - you really inspired me, once again! I'm a total sucker for nostalgia and the theater.

Oooh, brilliant! I think I might have just the picture for this actually- a remarkable Victorian actress who I've found out was quite interesting. Thanks for picking my theme, Alan!

oooooh tricky one. I have an idea but I'm not sure I have a photo. I might have to get creative.

Hi Alan! I posted twice this week (those are not mistake links, as when I mess up, lol). The first is about my newest major score on family history, and the second is on theme.

Thanks so much for all your work on S.S.,

Kathy M.

What is a town without a theatre? I wish we had one again. Of course, it wouldn't have the same character as an old one.....

I was mostly a 'behind the scenes' person where theatre was concerned! :) But no buildings to show, as they were open air productions I got involved with...

Mine is a family of thespians, but not a ‘dynasty’.

I am away for a long weekend. I will try and get around to visit people (depending on wifi access)but I might not manage to get next weeks' call up until Tuesday. Until then, I leave you with the delights of the Singer Trio.

I love theaters large and small. This one has a particular charm.

Alan, any chance I can remove the link directly in front of the Anglers Rest one? I hit submit before I wrote my Blog name!

Anglers Rest : Link deleted.

I love old theatres, they have a bit of pizazz about them. By coincidence we used to have a Majestic Theatre in my home town (long gone) but I have no pictures of it so have moved onto the stage.

Thanks Alan!

Oh what memories this week---those especially grand old theaters...we had them when I grew up and what an impression they made....

Jinksy said...

This is unheard of - you got my memory going on another theatre tack!

A great theme Alan. I'm curious as to when the US spelling changed from 'theatre' to 'theater'

Although I have some theatrical talent, it was difficult for my post to bridge to this theme. I hope you all enjoy Dr. Suess. :)

Howard, some time in the late 19th century there was a bill passed through Congress that allowed for changing the "re" to "er", dropping the h at the end of burgh, shortening town names to no more than two words, e.g. New York versus New York City, and a few other things. It apparently was confusing people. Whatever, huh.

I have a curious photo of a vaudevillian actor known for being the less famous son of a famous yodeler. How's that for publicity?

The theater! Love it. Great theme that was even more fun than I anticipated. Can't wait to see what you all have done with it.

An on-theme post from my home county of Yorkshire.

I have an actress up today. Also, please be aware that I'm in the process of moving my blog over to Wordpress (with a swanky .co.uk adress!), so although Blogger will work for now, the new address should eventually change! I'll put the new WordPress link on this comment and *hopefully* the new, 'proper' address on next week's comment!

(Sorry for the essay!)

Another perfect theme for me as I have just started to add postcards of theaters to my collection.

I almost had a choice this week!

Managed to stay on theme this week, in fact I had a few options. HAppy Sepia Saturday.

Oh heavens Alan, the theater in my hometown was named The Majestic. Long gone now and not handsome as this one. I had to get a little creative with my photo description.

I wasn't going to do this today, but then I came across a great photo of a theatre and I just HAD to!

While researching the Loudin Jubilee singers I found a photo and the story of the grandfather clock that stood in my grandparents living room for years.

Though I didn't stick with the theme, I love it and will enjoy seeing what others wrote. I wrote instead about my mentor...she has been on my mind and it just spilled out of me.

I couldn't find my ticket Alan, so I had to travel by a different route through Sepia Saturday, but I had lots of fun doing it. Except I've opened myself up for more research! During a busy work month too! Oh no! ....enjoy your weekend Alan and all!

Okay, there are lots of great entries this week and I've been trying to read them all but its been a hectic week so I have a lot of catching up to do. I just submitted two entries from two of my blogs, Forgotten Faces and Long Ago Place and Rogers Family History and somehow submitted 3 by mistake. The middle one was a mistake and can be deleted. Thanks!

A busy week delayed me, but no way I could resist this theme! Look forward to visiting everyone, too.

Sean Bentley said...

A tad late, sorry, I've been distracted building a website about me great-grandad. Anyway, by coincidence I realized I actually had a themed entry this week!

Kat Mortensen said...

Sorry, I'm late - lost the photos I was going to scan (they weren't digital).
I'm out and about today, but will visit you soon.

Kat
