Bridges have always had symbolic meaning. When discussions were taking place on the design of the first Euro notes, it was decided that the common illustration on all denominations should be a bridge - to symbolise the joining together of people, communities, and nations. Our Sepia Saturday theme image this week is entitled "Rough Wooden Bridge Over River, Group With Dog on the Shore". It comes, via Flickr Commons, from the Phillips Glass Plate Negative Collection, at the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney, Australia. The Museum provides no further information about where the bridge is, but the brilliance of on-line communities such as Flickr Commons (or, indeed, Sepia Saturday) is that such information is soon forthcoming : the footbridge was in Mosman Bay on the north shore of Sydney Harbour. The location of the photograph is not the only question posed by the title - it takes a sharp eye to spot the reported dog.
You Sepia Saturday theme for this week could therefore be bridges, lakes, rowing boats, dogs (present or absent), or whatever you care to make it. Just post your post on or around Saturday 1st December 2012 and add a link to the list below.
As usual, here is a sneak preview of the next two Sepia Saturday images :
Overalls and kisses are for the future, however. For the moment, step onto the bridge to the past that is Sepia Saturday and post your images for Sepia Saturday 154.

First??? Well, this is a new experience for me and I'm not altogether comfortable with being an early bird. We have lots going on every day for the next week, so my post would be now or never. I found this entire cast of characters provocative, in particular the dog's behind, if that bit in the lower right hand corner is the dog referred to in the title. Also, the pregnant? lady with the head covering is enigmatic.
As usual, I'm eager to see the usual wide variety of responses to this interesting prompt.
First time I've entered a Sepia Saturday blog. It's fantastic that the historical value of the old family photos is being recognised.
I've managed to find a few bridges and a dog or three.
I cheated ... a little bit.
I thought your prompt was about boating and a dock until you said it was about bridges! I have Minneapolis postcards about both subjects, so I ended up using the bridge theme.
Bridges, I took the easy route. After, I thought...

My post is up. Hope the spam essay above is soon gone.
I wonder how you got the spam essay. I was reading yesterday that more and more bloggers were having trouble with spam. I get a lot of it, but it's always caught by the filter.
I love your picture, as usual.
Spam cleaned up. We have been subject to a big increase in spam attacks recently - about 20 or so spam messages a day to the Sepia Saturday site. The spam filters catch about 99% of them but the occasional one gets through and has to be deleted manually.
One footbridge for your viewing pleasure ~
Helen, I believe the dog in question is seemingly the extension of the legs of the fellow on the planks leading up to the bridge itself. You can just make out the head and tail!
I do see the dog- he does blend in well with the man sitting though. It's a great picture- and bridges are a favorite of mine- so I'm mostly on bridges as well! But also- winter!
Couldn't find anything on topic, so here's a fav restaurant in FL from the 70s, and some mini-dresses!
No bridge in my photo but there is a lake, and judging by the length of skirts I think the photo is probably from the same era...
If you look very very closely to my sepia photo contribution, you will not see a dog either. That's as close to the theme as I can get.
And I have noted a major increase in spam attacks this past month on my blog too. I restricted comments to "registered users" which I take to be real people to screen out those pesky anonymous web-robots. Apparently the purpose of their odd comments is to increase the number of internet search hits for the purveyor of whatever product or website has found an open comment blog.
Bridges, bridges, bridges, what else?
Now that you're asking, spam, lots of it but usually caught by the filter.
Famous or infamous bridges?
I have many bridge photos from our travels over the years and from family records, I will post in a few more hours a memory that was jogged by bridges and I just may follow theme this week...
I have a boat and a bridge this week.
I have ventured into postcards for this week. They go along with a variety of old photos I have been posting recently, a traveling, photographing family. I love it!
Off topic for possibly the first time ever, but for a very good reason.
I'm in this week, but not with my best post ever. Got big plans for next week though. THAT will be an eye catcher!!
:)~

I've been absent for a while (too busy with work). I am glad to be back :)
I thought I would have to give this one a miss as I had nothing on rowing boats, but thank you to Alan for your prompt about Bridges. A nostlagic search through my photos resulted.
A couple of old bridge postcards from me this week
It's all about one bridge: Waalbrug Nijmegen.
My Edwardians are messing about in a boat this week.
Made it just in time - water and boats :-)
Grandpa Debs and Grandma Willis Webster are on the road again! This time they're headed to Mexico City and Chiapas, circa 1955.
I don't know what's with the spam but my inbox has 6 or 7 each day. There is a lot going on in this photo to pick from but I have an old bridge no longer in existence.

I am late to the party, but happy to participate. Cheers,
Jennifer
APOLOGIES TO ALL WHO ARE NOT ON THE FACEBOOK SEPIA SATURDAY GROUP, I HAVE BEEN STRICKEN WITH BAD HEADACHES THESE PAST FEW DAYS, AND WAS UNABLE TO VISIT ANYONE APART FROM A FEW THAT I GOT TO PRIOR TO THEIR ONSET. I WILL MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO RECTIFY THAT BEFORE THE WEEK IS OUT.
THANK YOU!
