Well, there we go: another year almost over and another Sepia Festive Season upon us. Traditions that go back decades mean that our Christmas prompt covers both Christmas and the New Year. As you can see it is a Christmas greetings card and it provides us all with an opportunity to create our own sepia cards and share them with other Sepians. Whatever you decide to do, simply post your post on or around Saturday 23rd December 2017 and post a link to the list below. If you want to while away the time over the holiday season you may wish to have a think about what awaits you in the Sepia New Year. Here are our next two prompts - the rest of the January ones can be found HERE.

Sepia Saturday 398 : 16 December 2017
It's playtime in the snow, winter in the park, swings and slides - or simply black and white. Our theme image this week is one of my own old photographs dating back forty years or so. For the record, it was taken in Crookes Valley Park in Sheffield - so you can add Sheffield and even crook(e)s to the potential theme list. Whatever you decide to go with, simply post your post on or around Saturday 16th December 2017 and add a link to the list below.
Whilst you are waiting for the snow that is blanketing your usual creativity to melt, why not take a look at the final theme for this year which will cover the two Sepia Saturdays over Christmas and New Year.
And if you want a longer term view you can view all the theme images for January 2018 by following this link:-

Sepia Saturday 397 : 9 December 2017
Our Sepia Saturday theme image this week features a small boy and a large fish. The identity of the boy is unknown (and, come to think of it, the precise identity of the fish is also unknown) but the photograph was seemingly taken at the Bon Echo Inn, in the Bon Echo Provincial Park, Ontario, Canada. The photograph forms part of the Flickr Commons Stream of the Cloyne & District Historical Society. As usual, you can interpret the prompt in any way you want, all you need to do is to post your post on or around Saturday 9th January 2017 and link it to the list below.
Whilst you are waiting for a fish to bite, you might want to have a preview of the remaining prompt images for 2017.
And just in case you have to wait a long time for a fish to bite, you could even have a look at the image prompts for January 2018 which are now available HERE. Happy Fishing!

Sepia Saturday 396 : 2 December 2017
Our Sepia Saturday theme image for this week is one of my own photographs which was taken back in the 1960s. It features market stalls in Brighouse, a typical small Yorkshire town. If you are looking for potential themes you can go with markets, vegetables or even headscarves. There is, however, one odd thing about this photograph which makes it a little bit spooky - and you may choose to go with that as a theme. It is one of my negatives, taken with one of my cameras - and, indeed, I can even remember taking it even though it was fifty years ago: but on careful examination, that young lad looking at some of the market produce on the right of the photograph appears to be me! To have taken the photograph and appeared in it must make this one of the earliest selfies!
Whatever theme you go with (or without - as always, the choice is yours), simply post your post on or around Saturday 2nd December 2017 and link it to the list below. As Christmas is just around the corner, here are the remaining themes for the rest of the year so that you have plenty of time to plan ahead.

Sepia Saturday 395 : 25 November 2017
I may have been away for a week or two, but if there is anything guaranteed to get me on the first plane back to Yorkshire, and the first plane back to Sepia Saturday, it is the sight of a group of chaps sat around with bottles of ale. Our theme image comes courtesy of a glass plate negative dating from the last decade of the nineteenth century, which forms part of the Flickr Commons collection of the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney, Australia. Of course you don't have to follow the beer prompt, there are many other potential themes bottled up within this fine old photograph. All you have to do is to post a post featuring an old photograph on or around Saturday 25th November 2017 and then link it to the list below. Cheers!
Here is a preview of our next couple of theme images.

THE PAST ON GLASS AT SUTTON ARCHIVES |
Our Sepia Saturday theme image this week features all those elements of a great Victorian or Edwardian studio photograph - a beautiful woman, an elegant dress and some lovely flowers - all set against a fine studio back-cloth. You can match all of these elements, some of them, or some elements of your own choosing. All you have to do is to post your post on or around the 18th November 2017 and link it to the list below.
And here is a quick look at what awaits you on the next couple of weeks on Sepia Saturday.

Our theme image this week features either a small man with a normal camera on his head or a normal man with a big camera on his head! It's all a matter of perspective. Share your perspectives or cameras, or photographers by posting a post on or around Saturday 11th November and linking it to the list below.

NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY - HALLOWE'EN GREETING CARD |
"Tis Hallowe'en and I'm here again". Well, actually, I'm not, I'm off on holiday. But my spirit lives on and is happy to provide you with this week's prompt image, Do with it as you will, but post your post on or around the 4th November 2017.
Here are the next two prompts, which - if the system is working well - will automatically be posted at the relevant point of time.
And if they do not, I will personally give them a big poke with the business end of my broomstick to get them out there! (Marilyn)

Sepia Saturday 391 : 28th October 2017
Our theme image this week features a troop of majorettes marching through the streets of Rotherham in South Yorkshire. They were, in fact, taking part in the Yorkshire Miners' Gala parade in the early 1980s, and - suitably for the time and the event - they were marching past Rotherham Conservative Club! I have no idea what you are going to make of this as a theme - but street parades, uniforms and galas come to mind. Whatever you go with, simply post your post on or around Saturday 28th October and add a link to the list below.
Next weekend is suitably close to Halloween and therefore we have a topical theme. The weekend after we have a photographer on his travels with a rather large camera. I will be on my travels over the next few weeks - hopefully my camera will be easier to pack than this one!

Sepia Saturday 390 : 21 October 2017
Our Sepia Saturday theme image this week features a young girl standing outside a door (No. 24 as it happens). The photograph comes from a collection of old and unwanted prints I bought on-line - the girl long forgotten, the house long-renovated, the iron railings long melted-down for scrap. There are many potential theme ideas you could follow up - the choice is yours. All you need to do is to post your post featuring an old image on or around Saturday 21st October 2017 and add a link to the list below.
Whilst you wait for someone to answer the door, perhaps you would like to spend a moment or two looking at what awaits you for the next couple of sepia weeks.

Sepia Saturday 389 : 14 October 2017
Our Sepia Saturday theme image this week is another from the Flickr Commons photo stream of the Sutton Archives (The Past On Glass) and it shows a young girl sat at a desk. Her name was Betty Ayles and the photograph was taken in May 1911. In the same archives there is a very similar photograph of the same young girl, this time sat at a piano. Whether she is sitting at a piano or a desk there is obviously cuteness in abundance in these studies. You might want to go with cuteness or desks, writing or lighting - as ever the choice is entirely your own. Simply post an old photo on or around Saturday 14th October 2017 and add a link to the list below.
The little girl in our theme image was in fact writing the list of Sepia Saturday theme images for the final quarter of 2017. These were the next two images on her list.

Sepia Saturday 388 : 7th October 2017
Here we go with a new season of Sepia Saturday and our first theme image provides us here in the northern hemisphere with a taste of things to come (and you in the southern hemisphere with a reminder of what you might just have got rid of). The photograph is in fact one of my old shots, taken in the early 1980s in Sheffield. I used it recently in one of my Facebook Posts and Sepian Kristin Cleage suggested it would make a good Sepia Saturday prompt (and that she had a good match for it). You can draw whatever prompts you want out of the image - cars, streets, snow, fog, city life or whatever. Once you have chosen your image and posted your post (on or around Saturday 7th October 2017), link it to the List below.
Whilst you are waiting to cross the road, you might want to think about what is around the corner heading in your direction.

Sepia Saturday 387 : 30 September 2017
You may not realise it, but flying the Sepia Saturday is no easy task. There are dials to watch, levers to pull, switches to switch, and the co-pilot, Alan Burnett, to keep sober. You could be excused if you thought this was a picture of either Alan's or Marilyn's office desk; but in fact it is a photograph of the cockpit of a 1948 B-36 plane which appears on the Flickr Commons stream of the American Aviation Historical Society. It may put you in mind with dials and switches, or planes boats and trains, or it may simply suggest to you the concept of complexity. Whatever switches you on, let it switch on your Sepia Saturday post this week. Simply post your post on or around Saturday 30th September and add a link to the list below.
Whilst you are waiting for clearance for take off, please read the safety instruction card and note that the emergency exits are being pointed out to you by your friendly cabin staff. And before you adopt the brace position, take a quick look at what awaits you in the coming weeks - providing, of course, that the plane makes it safely to its destination.

Sepia Saturday 386 : 23 September 2017
Flickr Commons - National Science and Media Museum - Daily Herald Archive |
Our theme image this week is from 1953 and shows a young Prince Charles looking out of the window of Buckingham Palace on the occasion of his mothers' Coronation. All sorts of potential themes come to mind - looking out, windows, small children and small details which form part of larger photographs. Whichever theme you choose, just share an old photograph in a Blogpost and add a link to the list below on or around Saturday 23rd September 2017.
Whilst you are watching out, waiting for the main event to start, take a look at what is around the Sepia Saturday corner.

Sepia Saturday 385 : 16 September 2017
I suspect we have had fishing before and I know we have had boats before, but I ask you to be patient. Or rather think about patience, because that is part of the title of this 1900 photograph which forms part of the Flickr Commons stream of the Mississippi Department Of Archives and History. You may have been patiently waiting for this theme to appear for months, or maybe you are thinking that it is time to think up some new themes. Once again, I would ask you to be patient - Marilyn and I are working on the list for the last quarter of the year at the moment. So whilst you are patiently waiting for the list to appear why not fish out some old photo that might (or might not) match our theme this week and once you have posted it, add a link to the list below.
And whilst you patiently wait for a bite, here is what is left of our themes for the third quarter of 2017.
