We are now well on our way to our Sepia Saturday 100 celebrations and as the bus passes through Måholmen in Sweden it stops to pick up the band. We are lucky enough to have secured the services of the Lighthouse Workers' Band - the above photograph was taken by Anders Folkestadås in the first decade of the twentieth century - who will be playing for our entertainment at the Centenary Party. But before that comes along (Saturday 12 November), we have Sepia Saturday 99 to celebrate (on or around the 5th November 2011). For the themers among us there is a wealth of possibilities in the above image (which comes from the Flickr photostream of the County Archives in Sogn og Fjordane) so strike up the band and get your posts ready.
SEPIA SATURDAY is a weekly meme which encourages bloggers to publish and share old images and photographs. All that is required is for contributors to post an old image (it doesn't have to be in sepia) and provide a few words in explanation. If you could provide a link back to the Sepia Saturday Blog and visit as many of the other contributors as you can, it would also be appreciated. There is no weekly theme, as such, but some people like to use the archive image published with the weekly call as a kind of theme. There is no requirement to adopt such an approach : the choice of image is entirely up to you. Once you have published your Sepia Saturday post, add a link to that post to the Linky List published each week and leave a comment to let everyone know you are joining in.

There's no linky thingy so for now just follow this http://bobscotney.blogspot.com/2011/11/hey-diddle-diddle-sepia-saturday.html
I have an American Indian employee band. Coincidentally, November is National Native American Heritage Month.
Sorry about the missing Linky folks. I feel sure that I put it in there and therefore its vanishing is, I would like to think, due to a Blogger gremlin. But alas, I suspect I just forgot to include it in the first place : what do you expect when you are 99.
Mine is the story of four drums - with a little bit of guesswork needed from fellow participants please on the last one.
I've recently started a new blog on the history of Lanzarote for the Canary Islands Descendants Association of San Antonio Texas, a city founded by Canary islanders in the 17th century. Their website is http://www.cida-sa.org. This post is about traditional Lanzarotean music and dance, and seems a good fit for this week's Sepia Saturday.
Hi Alan, I hope that you and Kat are having a wonderful trip! I think that you guys will enjoy this week's post from me ... I finally got around to Uncle John and a letter that he sent from Brazil during WWII. I even found a band picture!
Happy SS,
Kathy M.
Fiddling around, fiddlesticks, etc.
On Time+ on Theme!
I am in (early for me) and I have managed to book some entertainment for next week's party.
I considered this one for a while before I posted. Should I use a couple of 19060's folk-esque album sleeves or stick to more familiar territory. In the end I decided to follow the music theme but through the medium of postcards. Happy 99th Sepia Saturday, and I'm already looking forward to a slice of cake for next week's centenary celebrations.
I'm so sorry. I put in the wrong post link on Kathy Matthews #5. Please click on #11 for my SS post about Uncle John.
Now I have really messed it up. If you want to delete #5 and #12 please feel free. Sorry.
No music from me, except the slap of the water on the side of the boat...
Off topic again as none of mine were musically talented or able to sit on barrels :-) Jo
Kathy (Oregon Gifts) : I think I have made the changes.
Everyone Else : Ignore all the #5 and #12 stuff as all the numbers change when I delete things.
I have a lady musician playing the guitar, right on point!
I'm sorry not to participate this week, as this is a great topic. I'll have to bring out the Slovak relatives and their accordions at a later date.
Just too busy this week, darn it.
Mine is a bit of re-hash, but I couldn't resist the theme.
I am going to have to learn to add music to blogs as this theme screams for one. Fortunately, no recital tapes exist so your ears are safe!
Looking forward to celebration 100!
I told the story of the oldest community band in a tiny town in South Dakota.
My Uncle Henry Cleage playing the cello in 1970 and some info from when he played the bass in 1935.
I once again stretched it a bit to be a themer
but you'll get music alright.
All of it, actually!!
Just kidding, but you'll see...

Just published my very first Sepia Saturday post. No photo with actual musical instruments, but have a photo of an old poster announcing a concert given by my 2nd great-grandfather.
I think I've managed to stick fairly well to the theme. I'm still trying to find something suitable for the Big Occasion though.
I'm a lazy sod this week and so reposted an earlier, but by now actually ON-THEME, post.
Thanks Alan for a great challenge. I don't have many photos of string bands but after I looked closely at the wonderful Swedish musicians I knew I had a perfect fit. I hope I can add to everyone's vocabulary knowledge this weekend and there is added media too for more fun.
Musicians, Actors and Performers this week! :)
I found a photo of musicians, but not string players. A church choir in Alabama.
A little later than usual, but you know what they say ...
Better late than never.
Great photos.
