Sepia Saturday 636 : 27 August 2022

A picture of a happy couple - my parent's-in-law as it happens. But there is a small child in the background making sure he gets into the picture. Today we call this "photobombing": the word may be new, but the action is far from being new. For Sepia Saturday this week you can feature examples of vintage photobombing, or feature couples, or feature whatever you choose. Just share an old photograph and add a link to the list below on or around Saturday 27 August 2022.  And whilst you are waiting for the child to get out of the way, take a look at the next couple of Sepia Saturday theme images.

Sepia Saturday 635 : 20 August 2022

"Stand still!". "Look, you've got to stand still or else the photograph will be all blurred!" "Right, that's it, I've warned you, where's that glue?" Maybe I'm exaggerating, and maybe this poor child's hand has not been glued to the chair, but photographers from years gone by went to extraordinary lengths to ket their subjects to keep still. For Sepia Saturday 635 (post your posts on or around Saturday 20th August) you can  move with movement, or babies, or chairs .... or whatever you want. As long as it's old and it's new, that';s all we want you to do .... other than add a link to the list below. And whilst you are keeping still, let your eyes explore the next couple of Sepia Saturday themes.

Sepia Saturday 634 : 13 August 2022

Digging through old photographs, looking for clues as to place, time or person, sifting for details that will illuminate a story - lovers of old photographs are a bit like archeologists - dealing with pictures rather than places. Our theme image this week is just a detail of a larger image, one I cut out of a magazine many moons ago. Sadly, I have lost the details of who took the photograph, but it is masterful. I've added a little colour and focussed on just three faces: I like to think of them as three faces in search of a back story. I could say that this week, on Sepia Saturday, we are celebrating how images can help us find stories - but that is what we do every week on Sepia Saturday. So bring along any image you like, bring along any story - and add it to the Sepia Saturday Collection. Post you post, add a link and away we go.

Next week we will be in search of more stories and more images and if you need a prompt - here it is.

Sepia Saturday 633 : 6 August 2022

For some reason that escapes me, the other evening we were looking up the definition of the word "vintage" and I was surprised to discover it was anything "more than twenty years old" Our Sepia Saturday theme image this week is over forty years old, so it must be verging on antique rather than vintage, and if that is the case, I must be positively prehistoric. The theme image to me suggest clothes and how they can be used to date photographs, but - as always with Sepia Saturday - you are free to wander down any byway of interpretation. All you need to do is to post a post on or around Saturday 6th August 2022 and add a link to the list below. And for those wanting to look what is around the corner - in a backwards direction, of course - here are the next theme images in line.

Sepia Saturday 632 : 30 July 2022

Sorry folks, it's been one of those weeks. Thanks to Mike for reminding me that I hadn't put the Sepia Saturday call up. I can't even claim I have been ill in bed - my only excuse is a very demanding granddaughter. Here is the Link List for your Sepia Saturday efforts this week. I will get next week's up on time - promise.

Sepia Saturday 631 : 23 July 2022

Our theme image for Sepia Saturday 631 comes from the East Riding of Yorkshire Photographic Archives and it is available to us all via the magnificent Flickr Commons initiative. It provides me with a useful opportunity to point lovers of old photographs not just towards Flickr Commons, but also to the establishment of the new Flickr Foundation which will help to move forward the vitally important work of preserving and sharing our collective photographic heritage in the decades to come. If you are not familiar with these recent developments I would urge you to take a few moments to look at the plans and proposals for this new non-profit making Foundation which can be found on their webpage. The Flickr Commons initiative was launched in 2008, just two years before our own Sepia Saturday challenge, and over the last twelve years we have frequently dipped into that wonderful photographic resource pool for inspiration. This week is no exception, and our prompt image features hats, ponies, traps, dogs and horses ... and all manner of other things. Use the image to inspire you and share your inspirations on or around Saturday 23 July 2022, and add a link to the list below. And whilst you are giving the ponies a little rest, take a look at what lies in the future here on Sepia Saturday.
