I need to be careful! It appears that I have been causing chaos by picking out all sorts of random themes in my archive pictures (see Peters' excellent post last week). Well, the last thing I want to do is to confuse people. And therefore all I will say about my archive picture this week is that you might possibly want to follow, plates, beans, tomato soup, eggs, coffee, biscuits, baking powder, salt, pepper, breakfast cereals, tinned fish, spam, or jars of jam as your theme this week. In fact you can take your pick from the shelves of the grocery section, of Bell and Macaulay's Store, Drouin, Victoria, Australia. The picture comes from the digital collection of the National Archives of Australia, made available via the excellent Flickr Commons initiative. Whatever you buy, check it out by posting your post on or around Saturday 15 September 2012 and linking it to the list below.
For those who like to shop in advance, here is a look at the next two Sepia Saturday archive pictures.
Well, I hope I haven't confused you too much. Now, what on earth was it that I needed - ah yes, a large box of those chocolate biscuits please.
I'm early this week, hopefully in time to comment on last week's posts.
ReplyDeleteHopeful also that those of you across the Atlantic can see the video I've posted.
I thought I was stumped until I remembered some sepia pictures of Lanzarote.
ReplyDeleteI lucked out this week and am so much on theme that it is awesome ... plus the pictures are of my own Dad!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to visit you all.
Kathy M.
I think I've supplied the perfect item needed for this weeks theme.
ReplyDeleteI have now updated the side-list of participants but the trouble is by the time I get round to updating it, new people have joined and therefore I need to start again. So, please remember, if you are not there, just let me know and I will add your blog to the list.
ReplyDeleteI have got my SS submission in early this week, in an attempt to make up for the last couple of weeks when I have been either late or not there at all.
It was Napoleon, I believe, who called the British "a nation of shopkeepers" so it is only appropriate that I go to France this week in search of my Sepia Saturday submission.
I'm serving up leftovers from one of my first blogs but it'll feel new -- I hate that you missed it the first time. HA!
ReplyDeleteAlan, can you add me to the SS Blog Authors, I don't think I have access at the moment.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Kat
No cans of spam or beans in my sepia photo this weekend, but a shop nonetheless. Canned music perhaps.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I have no Sepia shops, but I went to Seville and Paris to tempt your sweet tooth.
ReplyDeleteI recovered from my confusion and found a "Help Yourself" grocer. And it is not a supermarket.
ReplyDeleteI thought I had already done the store in my family history but I remembered the Black Star Cooperative Market.
ReplyDeletePer usual I take a long way to connect to the prompt. lol
ReplyDeleteBack for more! I couldn't find a grocery store in my collection, but I do have another shop interior to offer. Looking forward to hopping around the other blogs.
ReplyDeleteI almost got carried away this week. A prompt I have a strong connection to.
ReplyDeleteSince I used my very favorite storefront (the one with the laxatives and a cat) for a previous Sepia Saturday I have a photo postcard of a market place circa 1903.
ReplyDeleteHello Alan! What a lively photo of shoppers! The one man in the top center looks very happy, but it doesn't seem he's even talking to anyone, just enjoying himself! Any way my theme- (they aren't so lively! Ha! Ha!) but they are interesting....I'm thinking I'm the only one that went this direction. We shall see! :)
ReplyDeleteA short story...
ReplyDelete:)~
HUGZ
I’ve found one photo and one postcard that matches as close as possible to the theme.
ReplyDeleteThis week, I have a family photograph - Auntie Laura at work in a shop :o)
ReplyDeleteI've really enjoyed this weeks theme of food and shopping so must go and have a coffee and a cake
ReplyDeleteMy post this week is about the first self-service grocery store in the USA and the genius who came up with the idea.
ReplyDeleteI used the interior of a restaurant and some tobacco and prohibition history in our little town.

It's my first time at posting something for Sepia Saturday, hope I got it right :)
ReplyDeleteTake a trip down memory lane with my vintage postcard of Elsie and Beauregard.
ReplyDeleteA bit late, but a dozen shop postcards from me this week
ReplyDeleteHello all - well, it's still Saturday here, barely, and I've finally chimed in with an update to my family history saga. Looking fwd to reading your entries...
ReplyDeleteAnd by the way, I took the time to update a couple of "to be continued" links in the original posts so you can actually read the whole thing! Sorry if anyone got derailed.
I too, had no Sepia Shops, (liked the phrase from Titania), but I have added some memories plus ideas from Austria & Bavaria for brightening up our High Streets.
ReplyDeleteOops sorry I've linked twice, I thought the first one hadn't worked as it didn't show up until after the second try! I would love to join in the weekly prompts thank you, I've started a new blog especially for them, if you'll have me.
ReplyDeleteCheers....Dawn
