Our theme this week was picked by a couple of our regular contributors : ROB FROM AMERSFOORT over at ROBS WEBSTEK and BOB SCOTNEY at BOB'S HOME FOR WRITING. The theme is not men with silly beards (although you can always go with that one if you want - we are libertarians over here on Sepia Saturday), but DOGS. So we are asking for pictures of dogs, pictures of people with dogs, pictures of people who look like dogs. pictures taken by dogs - or what have you. My featured archive image comes from the collection of the National Media Museum (available via Flickr Commons) and dates from around 1900. Taken by the Gloucester photographer, P Davey, it is entitled, appropriately enough, "A Man With Dog"
You don't have to follow the theme : all we ask is that whatever you post is old and interesting. Post your posts on or around Saturday the 4th February 2012 and once posted add a link to the Linky List below. Leave a comment so we know you are in and try and get around as many other posts as possible. Simple really : like a walk in the park. With a dog, of course.
Thanks! And what a nice picture. I'm not sure who is funnier, the man or the dog :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's a pleasure Rob.
ReplyDeleteAnd a quick apology to everyone else - I was away over the weekend and I didn't get much chance to visit the participating blogs. My apologies - I will be better this week.
As we say here:
ReplyDeleteYou snooze, you lose!!
:D~
Please define old.
It wouldn't be sepia,
but I do have a story to tell...
Aha! I have a whole folder of images marked 'dogs', so this is going to be interesting, picking one! Please may I also draw people's attention to the fact that Ladies in Monochrome has moved to a completely different site? (Alan, sorry to be a pain, any chance you could update the link on the side?)It's all very swanky and new now! The new link is www.ladiesinmonochrome.co.uk
ReplyDeleteThanks!
TB : Old is a state of mind
ReplyDeleteI,m either very early or very late!
ReplyDeleteDogs are one of my absolutely favorite topics. In a bit of a rush this week due to work commitments and guests coming in this weekend but I threw together my entry. I had too many to pick from and had a hard time choosing &it was hard to narrow it down to the pictures I ended up choosing. Arf arf!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great theme! I had three dog photos and added in some other stuff too. I haven't been feeling well and still need to visit some from last week too.
ReplyDeleteTake care, everybody.
Kathy M.
My problem is I have so much about dogs it's difficult knowing where to stop and what to leave out.
ReplyDeleteOne mean dog and one man who wants to train him. My offering this week.
ReplyDeleteI learned a lot from researching my subject this week.
ReplyDeleteNaughty dogs feature in my post this week.
ReplyDeleteI'm so off topic, I find it amusing. But you'll see it only at 00:10, on Saturday morning, local time, obviously!! Big post, like I like'em!! And you'll get your eyes and ears full!! Just be patient!!
ReplyDeleteCOMING SOON!!
;)~
HUGZ
It's ready, but I like to keep things tidy. It will appear as a true "Sepia Saturday". Let's just say it has nothing to do with Montreal, for a change...

I got the message TB
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to everyone's dog stories!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great old photo. It is hard to decide who is a better character but I am leaning towards the man. I love the expression on his face.
ReplyDeleteAlan, after reading Rob's post, I was thinking it would be nice to have a Sepia Saturday Facebook page if enough people are interested. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteKathy
Back to themelessness this week, unless you think the paintings I posted are "dogs."
ReplyDeleteP.S. does anyone else think the guy in that photo looks like Hugh Jackman as Wolverine?!
ReplyDeleteAh yes, I finally mad a posting today.
ReplyDeleteI hope you will enjoy the tour of dog photos and excuse the bad puns. ;-)
ReplyDelete* I'm again having trouble posting with my wordpress open ID on Blogger - anyone else? Can't seem to on any of my favorite Blogger sites, meh.
I have a c 1928 photo ready for Saturday & I look forward to seeing lots of adorable dogs.

@L.D. I've been trying to use the "Name" "Url" option when it's available. otherwise i use my goggle id. I've had no problem posting lately.
ReplyDeleteRight on Alan! Man's best friend is a great topic!
ReplyDeleteThough I won't be able to fully participate in this weekends Sepia Saturday adventure I did want to share a couple of photos of George Kallman with dogs.
ReplyDeleteI don't know which I'm more fascinated with by the beard or the dogs eyebrows. The suit looks as though its woven for the great outdoors.
ReplyDeleteMan and dog look well suited for each other in this photo. I did manage to find some dog-themed photos this time around.
ReplyDeleteTwo posts on dogs from me. The first is a musical photo, one of my favorites, that I posted 2 years ago, but it deserves more SS viewers.
ReplyDeleteThe second is non-musical but very canine.
WoofWoof
What a great theme....thanks Bob and Rob! ...and it's not even Saturday yet...and such a huge turnout!
ReplyDeleteAnd here I am!!
ReplyDelete;)~
No dogs for me - unless you count the fact I may be dogging the footsteps of the other participants! LOL
ReplyDeleteJust posted ... wow the contributions are increasing every week. Think I need to cut my working hours just to find time to read everyone's posts.
ReplyDeleteLooks like another bumper bundle this week. I'm in with Enoch and his pin-sharp ratter.
ReplyDeleteyou can just about see a dog in my post this week...
ReplyDeleteThis week's offering is a studio portrait of a pretty young lady with her dog; one of my favourite photographs!
ReplyDeleteFirst I lost the pics I was going to scan! So I'm late.
ReplyDeleteAlso, must apologize, but we're out and about today, so I will visit you all later.
Kat
Thanks for Sepia Saturday. I just found this site yesterday and loved the whole concept immediately. I'm a big fan of old photos and crazy about dogs, so this week's theme grabbed me like a magnet. Unfortunately, I don't know the stories of the dogs in the old photos I've chosen for this theme, but a click on the label "dogs" will bring up plenty of detailed stories about my personal dogs. There's even a separate blog devoted to my blind dog, Butch.
ReplyDeleteThanks again. What a fun place to play!
My first participation in Sepia Saturday!
ReplyDeletePictures are my absolute favorite thing about genealogy. And I certainly love looking at everyone elses! :)
I won't be posting for a few weeks while we travel...but oh do I have the dog pictures if we'd been home...meantime, here we are in Tennessee at Graceland and set to head to the big house for brunch and tours....will read your posts as I have time.
ReplyDeleteAha!
ReplyDeleteJust got hold of 133 photo scans from my grand-aunt's scrapbook. The photos were taken from 1922 to about 1936, and Teddy, the family dog is among the stars...
I had a very limited choice in dogs but at least it saved me a lot of heartache.
ReplyDeleteBlogger is refusing to accept my comments via Wordpress again, so I am having to comment using my Google ID (it's me, Jo, at Imagespast.wordpress.com)sorry folks, Google's taking command, again, I think
ReplyDeleteI'm having trouble with my comments being accepted on Blogger with my Wordpress account-seems the word verification doesn't like WP. I'll try to remember to leave comments using my Blogger account.
ReplyDelete--OrdinaryJanet (Blogger hasn't been accepting my comments with word verification.) http://ordinaryjanet.wordpress.com/
On the Blogger help forum it mentions a problem with the new threaded comment software which came out a couple of weeks ago. Seems a lot of folk are having trouble. Hope it's fixed soon and I can comment again as ImagesPast. Jo :-)
ReplyDeleteThe dog is adorable!
ReplyDeleteA late entry from me this week!
