We've been doing the element during October here on Sepia Saturday water, air, fire and all that - so to end with let's celebrate the fact that it is Halloween by featuring ghosts. In fact, ghosts were a common subject for many early photographs - those hazy, out-of-focus double exposures that were frequently to be found in early photographs gave rise to all sorts of paranormal speculations. So wheel out your family ghosts - be it Great Uncle George floating above a graveyard or Cousin Hilda carrying her head underneath her arm as she walks down the upstairs landing. Let those spirits free on or around Saturday 31st October 2026 and add a link to the list below. Once you've done that you can say goodbye to October and take to the streets here on Sepia Saturday in November.

An ancestor who actually was a Spiritualist - a religion which practiced contacting the ones who had gone before.
