It's portrait month here on Sepia Saturday and we kick off with a portrait that is probably the best part of 150 years old. You don't have to match it with an equally old portrait, of course, indeed you don't even need a portrait. All you need is an old photo (and the definition of "old" is up to you) along with a few new thoughts. Then post your post on or around Saturday 7th October 2023 and add a link to the list below.
And whilst you are sitting around waiting for the artist to finish, take a look at what else is in store during portrait month.
Help! I am currently unable to comment on La Nightingail's blog. I sign into Google, but I just get the "Sign in to Google" button over and over. I tried following the blog in Blogger, but that doesn't work, either. Any advice? Thanks, Molly.
ReplyDeleteMy post has some previous photos about travel before there were cars/trucks and even trains to go to the next place to make a home (often out of nothing). Sorry Molly...I don't know what's happening with your blogger. But if you've read Gail's post, maybe it's something about the comment button. Did you click (When you went there) to get to her post the current URL for it, or the main link to all her posts? I think if we use the main link sometimes we can't comment. The URL for that particular post should allow comments.
ReplyDeleteFor my first post under "Portraits" I profile my great grandmother whose life involved a number of mysteries.
ReplyDeleteHaving earlier said I could comment on Gail's (La Nightingale) Posts on my main computer - today I cannot. I click on Sign into Google and it just returns to the actual post and message to Sign into Google again and again - to no effect, as Molly found too.
ReplyDeleteI liked the catchy title and am full of admiration (and a wee bit of genealogical envy!) for the fact you have portraits going back to a ggg grandfather. A wonderful collection with my favourites the images of Ella.

ReplyDeleteMy contribution to this week's Sepia Saturday 'Portraits' is an old postcard from 1901.
ReplyDeleteI have no shortage of portrait photos so this month will be easy.
ReplyDeleteAs for the blocked commenting issue, Monica has it right. Clearing all cookies on your browser(s) and re-signing on to Google should fix it.
Thanks everyone for the technical tips. Will try them this week. Meanwhile, I have a mini portrait of my Uncle Fred accompanying his next two 1942 letters home during WWII.
