It's the one you have been waiting for. After being constrained within the digital thought-corset of our weekly Sepia Saturday theme images for the last few years, this week we give you the freedom of the open theme. There is no image to match - unless you have a collection of old photographs featuring brown wrapping paper - and all you are asked for is an old photograph and some new reflections. Just post your post on or around Saturday 7th June 2014 and link it to the list below. This Open Theme week is a bit of an experiment, so let us know what you think of it - if it is popular we can include it on a regular basis - say one Open Theme Week a month.
If you are feeling lost and alone in this unstructured world of open freedom, fear not, the themes are back for the next couple of weeks. Here is a preview of the next two.

I really prefer having a photo that suggests several possible themes. I enjoyed this one-time open theme. I used photos with no common theme, but with openings.

ReplyDeleteNot exactly a D-Day story, but it did inspired me to post a tribute to my uncle Ken, who was shot down earlier in WW2.
ReplyDeleteFrom a grave of someone who died in 1847 to my other blog where I talk about newborn animals in my life...I delighted in bringing the themes I'm currently pursuing to you...though the photos are modern the topics aren't at all.

ReplyDeleteI prefer the challenge of working off a photo, but the untheme could work as an occasional diversion. Perhaps on the 4 seasonal solstices and equinoxes?

I must admit that inspiration was failing when faced with a "Free for All" choice of theme. I clearly need the photo prompt to get my brain buzzing. All I could think of were themes I had already featured. So I would not want this challenge too often.

ReplyDeleteHooray for no theme! As a family history blogger with few photographs, themes are so very difficult. And themes always remind me of high school where the teacher assigned the topic for the compositon.... (Maybe I'm just a little too independent?) I also think Sepia Saturday posts are way more interesting without themes: by the time I get to the third post on umbrellas or mountains or whatever in the same weekend I have trouble being enthusiastic. Maybe I'm easily bored? Anyway, again, hooray for no theme! Sepia Saturday started this way. I'd be pleased if it continued without themes.
