Suitcases mean holidays. Holidays mean photographs. Ergo, suitcases mean a good crop of sepia goodies. Out theme image for Sepia Saturday 213 - post your posts on or around Saturday 1st February 2014 - features an open suitcase. You can either go with the suitcase or you can ferret around inside it and find all sorts of possibilities. The actual image comes from an old advert for the Pacific Trunk Company which features in the Flickr Commons stream of the California Historical Society. For those new to Sepia Saturday what we are looking for is an old image (it doesn't have to be sepia) and a few words of description or explanation. Post your post and link back to the Sepia Saturday Blog and after it has been published try and visit as many other sepia participants as you can.

You would have a problem fitting a piano or a tramcar into a suitcase, but if you are lucky enough to own a suitcase from the Pacific Trunk Co, it would appear that you can fit most other things in. Whatever you decide to pack, add a link to your post to the Linky List below.
My original interpretation of the image was that the suitcase belonged to a traveling salesman due to the blank orders and business cards. I'm glad you mentioned holidays because I was able to come up with something about travel in general.
ReplyDeleteI have just deleted three links which had been added to this weeks' Sepia Saturday. In each case the posts were nothing to do with either the Sepia Saturday concept in general or the theme in particular. Equally the people posting had not made any comments to explain their submissions. If the three blogs thus deleted would like to add any comment to justify their inclusion in Sepia Saturday they are most welcome to do so. I hope other Sepians agree with this approach, if not, please let me know. Alan
ReplyDeleteI don't mind viewing ONE of the abstract pictures. But whoever is submitting them began with one submission at first. Then two. And now three, and never any explanation about them. Not sure where they're headed, but it would be nice to know what their idea is in posting the strangely beautiful but odd pictures that appear to have nothing to do with the idea of Sepia Saturday.

ReplyDeleteLove this theme! After I'd already gotten started on the packable lunch meat theme, I started thinking of lots of other possibilities for this vintage suitcase theme! One vivid memory -- but not one I had a picture of, unfortunately -- was the traveling makeup case my mother used to have. A little bigger than a shoebox, it was hard-sided and square, had a mirror and a removable compartment. I don't remember her taking it with her to travel; she just used it to store makeup and lotion in. I found one similar to it when my oldest children were babies twenty-five years ago or so -- and used it to store all their little baby socks. Wonder what happened to that little traveling case?
