Our theme prompt for Sepia Saturday 192 features a wonderful 1947 portrait of the jazz musician Stan Kenton by the noted photographer William P Gottlieb. The photograph forms part of the Flickr Commons collection of the Library of Congress - indeed if you are a lover of classic jazz photographs there is an entire Flickr stream dedicated to Gottlieb's work. That is Kenton in the middle of this trio, dressed in typical 1940s style with his striped trousers held high with the obligatory suspenders (or as we call them here in Europe, braces). So there is your first possible direction of travel, but you may also choose to go with neckties, jazz, men sat down or ... anything you want to. Your choice of subject can be as free and innovative as the best of Kenton's music: all we require is for you to post your post on or around Saturday 31 August 2013 and then link it to the list below.
But before you start to orchestrate your submission for Sepia Saturday 192, you might like to look ahead and see what is in prospect for the next couple of Saturdays.

Most of the men in my photographs are dressed very formally for weddings or military service. So instead I have focussed on more causal wear both for work and leisure - with minus their ties!
ReplyDeleteNot sure I'm going to have much time over the next few days to create a new post for Sepia Saturday, but I have done several Jazz related ones in the past, so I'm going to recycle an old one this week. I had intended to do a series of 10 of these but seem to have stopped at 7.
ReplyDeleteThis is an apology to those who have Google+ accounts. I have discovered I can no longer post comments on sites linked to Google+ without myself opening a Google+ account. I did open one briefly and hated it so much I ran away into the night screaming. Google demands too much information in order to just post a comment. I'm sorry. I enjoy your comments, but cannot reciprocate. The other day in order to post a comment Google wanted my name (they wouldn't accept my online name), my birthday, and told me they would change how I would henceforth interact with Picasa. I'm sorry, but that's just not going to happen. Shame on Google for doing this.

ReplyDeleteI have an unwanted Google+ account and don't know what it is supposed to do or how it works besides messing up Picasa and associating my name with pictures I have uploaded. I felt like I might lose things I wanted and needed if I tried to get out of Google+.
One of my uncles introduced me to jazz in my early teens. Stan Kenton was one of my favorites, along with Dave Brubeck.

ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how the braces got hidden under outer clothing. I've gone with a young soldier. And thanks to Tattered and Lost for the clear explanation on Google+. I too found it much too intrusive so at times am not able to post comments. Sorry folks.

ReplyDeleteDone! Braces, ties, brothers, mates...with a bit of a funny film at the end...but be warned...the film at the end is a bit blokey with a language and a not for the squeamish warning.
