When I first chose the theme image for Sepia Saturday 179, I thought to myself, "we've never had birds, beasts and reptiles" before; but of course I was wrong. A quick check of the list kept by Marilyn and available on the Sepia Saturday Facebook page, and I discover that we've had tortoises (164), elephants (133), cats (130), cattle (127), dogs (111), rabbits (71) and even a camel (70)! If you have completely run out of animals, you might like to follow the caravans, or climb up the steps, or even hide in the wooden barrel. Whatever potential theme you highlight from our archive image (which comes from the Tyne and Wear Archives and Museum Collection on Flickr Commons), all you need to do is to post your post on or around Saturday 1st June 2013 and then add a link to the list below.
But before you fly away to do that (or, if you are a reptile, slither away and do that), you might like to take a look at the theme images that are just around the corner.
180 : Our picture features a hospital kitchen on a railway train, thus providing Sepians with a vast menu of theme opportunities.
181 : Time to open your jewellery case and dig out some sparkling images. We're
looking for any bodily adornments: from girls with pearl earrings to gents with
an impressive medal collection (or vice versa!).
But such things are for the future. This week it is the turn of the birds .... and the beasts .... and the reptiles.
Those vardo wagons reminded me of the one I built myself. So here's a repost of my sharing my little original clay model of a gypsy wagon.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for the inspiration image! My contribution, which will appear on Saturday, is entitled 'A Traditional Irish Festival in Sepia' and features a number of elements which you might have seen on an Irish farm of old.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Jennifer
No photos of gypsy wagons but found some photos of the old family caravan.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure that the Manders originated from Irish tinkers or from Romany stock, most likely neither, but they sure were economic with the truth !!
ReplyDeleteA life on the open road for me!
ReplyDeleteNo birds, beasts or reptiles for me - I'll chose amusement stalls and fairground rides over animal performances any day.
ReplyDeleteThe animals inspired my post this week. Warning... it's a slowwww read. :)
ReplyDeleteA quick read/show from me on this 179th -- but one of my favorite photos.
ReplyDeleteAnimals for me -- short and sweet.
ReplyDeleteAnimals and wagons by the dozen from me, with only a distant glimpse of the musicians.
ReplyDeleteCaravans and beasties, but no birds for me.
ReplyDeleteI have the perfect photos for this prompt....will be up soon
ReplyDeleteI found an interesting variety of photographs at the local stalls. Beasts, birds, fish, but no reptiles.
ReplyDeleteI have postcards of Orville Ewing who traveled the U.S. in a wagon with his animals for many years.
ReplyDeleteI'm back.Sorry for being AWOL!
ReplyDeleteNo wagons but some Gypsies.
ReplyDeleteI had so many wagons to choose between. Lots of pictures but not much reading this week.
ReplyDeleteWon't you come and ride with me!?!
ReplyDeleteCome to Montreal and its surroundings.
:D~
HUGZ
Birds and beasts, but not the usual ones.
ReplyDeleteI was a bit disappointed this week as I wanted to use the prompt to do a bit of research, but I have made a start!
ReplyDeleteWe never know what's going to slither out from under an avocado tree and so with little time available I did a reptilian repeat today.
ReplyDeleteHave gone with the caravans rather than the reptiles.
ReplyDeleteI rolled out the barrel.
