Our picture this week comes from the photographic archives of the State Library of Queensland, Australia and is entitled "Children enjoying a ride on the miniature railway at the Brisbane Ekka in 1948" The "Ekka" is the local name for the Brisbane Exhibition Grounds where exhibitions and other events have been held since the staging of the first Queensland Intercolonial Exhibition in 1876. Those Sepia Saturday participants who like a theme to follow can find prompts a-plenty in this image : trains, things in miniature, steam, days out and the ubiquitous hats of the age. Or you can ignore themes all together and just let us have an old image and some new thoughts. Whatever you decide to do, do it on or around Saturday the 5th May 2012, and then link your post to the list below.
For those who like to plan ahead here is a sneak preview of the next two call images.
But all that is for the future. For the time being just concentrate on SS 124 and don't be late because you won't want to miss the train.
Looks like lots of fun ideas!
ReplyDeleteHi! Whoa, this one is a long post, but it goes fast. I think it is one of my favorites so far. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did!
ReplyDeleteI am thinking of doing another one with just pictures of Oregon railroad building too, because I have found a bunch of those.
Thanks; I can't wait to read everybody elses posts this week.

I,m In.Fairly Brief.May Add To It Over The next Couple of Days.
ReplyDeleteI have posts on both blogs this week again - just because it was a favourite subject and I had suitable material - so I did! I hope you’ll enjoy both of them. Really looking forward to see what other contributors do with this one.
ReplyDeleteI was originally planning a "small" post but changed topics when I saw the description of the miniature train in this weeks Sepia Saturday photo. I have postcards from the Chicago Railroad Fair of 1948-1949. They did have a miniature train there, but I don't have a picture of it.
ReplyDeleteMy post will look familiar to some of you but this old post matches perfectly with this week's theme photo.
ReplyDeleteMeet me on Platform 2 of Weston-Super-Mare station.
ReplyDeleteEenie meenie minie mo - I couldn't decide so I wrote 2.
ReplyDeleteSteamed up!
ReplyDeleteI'm back. If you waded through my other one, thank you! This one is easy, just cool pictures of building railroads in Oregon.
ReplyDeletealmost on topic this week...
ReplyDeleteWell I did have some train photos but I could not pass up Derby day in Kentucky and the last Triple Crown Winner 34 years ago and some other derby tidbits. I guess my theme from this is having a speedy good time.
ReplyDeleteQMM
Well I had to go with small people having fun, could not find a picture of a train, sigh. But I do have a blurb about our local miniature 7 1/2 gauge train. I think I'll head out there the next time they are open...
ReplyDeleteAfter six months of blog inactivity, I'm back with a Sepia Saturday contribution that I hope you'll find both pertinent to the theme and interesting.
ReplyDeleteA fun post for me,
ReplyDeleteone I hope you'll all enjoy!!
Still working on next week's post...
Better brace yourselves for this one
as I go off the deep end!!
Totally going nuts,

I couldn't find the picture I was sure I had - it must be somewhere- but I've found reasonable substitutes.
ReplyDeleteI wish that I could figure out how to leave a comment for Crazy As A Cool Fox ... I enjoy the posts each week and give it a Facebook "like", but that is the best that I can do. Is anybody else having problems with commenting on there?
ReplyDeleteJust signed up for the 2 free weeks of Ancestors.com...and found familiar family faces as well as new pics I'd never seen. What fun. I've got 2 more very old albums to scan now and post there! And the interesting ones will also come on my blog.
ReplyDeleteNo trains or children from me this weekend. But plumes and trombones aplenty, all in sepia.
ReplyDeleteI'm not on theme this week, but today's photo is linked with my post from last week.
ReplyDeleteI just posted my picture for this week's train theme - what fun!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad this train didn't pull out of the station before I remembered the single on-theme picture in my files. This was fun.

ReplyDeleteI just added another entry from my other blog, my personal family history blog, Teresa'sTangledRoots.
ReplyDeleteGreat prompts for the theme this week. My entry is now posted.
