Sepia Saturday 108 : 14 January 2012

I am not saying anything about my chosen old image for this week other than it is a still from the 1912 silent film "The New York Hat". The image comes courtesy of the Billy Rose Theatre Collection at the New York Public Library and, as always, via the magnificent Flickr Commons initiative. Other than that you can make of it what you will - pick your own themes, find your own prompts, follow you own cues. It is what you have all been doing so well for the last 107 weeks. All we ask is that your posts have some kind of old image within them, that you post them on or around Saturday the 14th of January 2012, that you add a link to your post  to the list below, that you link back to the Sepia Saturday Blog, and that you try and visit as many of the other participants as you can manage. What could be easier? It's a piece of cake. No it's not, it is a hat.

  1. Hopefully, I won't be too "old hat."

  2. A NYC hat! 75 years younger and it would have been the perfect addition to my SS107. You will be in NYC by the end of the decade with Amy and will have to stop into a haberdashery. J.J. Hat Center would be the perfect fit - established in 1811!

  3. You never know what a woman is keeping under her hat.

  4. I'm guessing this lady saw one of the feather's move and is now concerned it might be alive!

My mind is not on hats, but a salesgirl selling chocolate.

  5. A lovely bonnet, ‘with all the frills upon it’ set me off in a search to find the top of the Hat Parade!

  6. Hello! Thank you for all the visits and lovely comments on LiM! I love looking at everyone's sites too!

This Saturday, I have a very interesting lady 'under my hat', as it were. I am *such* a fan of hats and can never pass up the opportunity to buy a photo of a lady with a really glamorous one!

  7. Ah, classic movies. According to Wikipedia this 16 minute movie (directed by D.W. Griffith) is the best known example of Mary Pickford's early work. Nice theme!

  8. There is a condensed version of the movie on YouTube:

    The New York Hat (1912)

The Sepia Saturday prompt is at 4:33 in the video.

  14. A great theme choice this week. I'm glad others watched the original "New York Hat" film too. It helped me to decide for a bit of melodrama and half-fiction this time, so I'll take a girl and 1912.
