You will be glad to see that there is not a train in sight for this weeks' theme photograph. Instead we have one of the most famous images in photographic history - William Henry Fox Talbot's 1840s photograph of Nicolaas Henneman Asleep. It would appear that Henneman was Fox Talbot's Dutch valet and photographic assistant who later became a photographer in his own right. In those very early days of photography when subjects had to stay still for so long, a conveniently sleeping subject was perfect for a sharp print. As far as themes are concerned - make of it what you will : after 93 weeks I am well aware that you have the collective inventiveness to draw a theme out of the thinnest of air. All I ask is that you post your contribution on or around Saturday the 24th September 2011 and that you provide a link to it in the list below. That said, I am going back to sleep now.
SEPIA SATURDAY is a weekly meme which encourages bloggers to publish and share old images and photographs. All that is required is for contributors to post an old image (it doesn't have to be in sepia) and provide a few words in explanation. If you could provide a link back to the Sepia Saturday Blog and visit as many of the other contributors as you can, it would also be appreciated. There is no weekly theme, as such, but some people like to use the archive image published with the weekly call as a kind of theme. There is no requirement to adopt such an approach : the choice of image is entirely up to you. Once you have published your Sepia Saturday post, add a link to that post to the Linky List published each week and leave a comment to let everyone know you are joining in.
Thanks to Alan's inspiration, this one was an easy one. Can't wait to see what you all come up with on this theme.
ReplyDeleteI managed to keep awake long enough to draw together the threads of this post. I was going to call it ‘The Rest is History’ but that seemed a pun too far!
ReplyDeleteI started with a postcard of a man sleeping in a chair.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to sleep right now but I know I have several sleepers in my collection.
ReplyDeleteSome random sleepers! Not spies!
ReplyDeleteI have no sleepers in my collection, but have found a theme neverthless.
ReplyDeleteAh, the early days of photography! I can relate to that. I have a small collection of daguerreotypes, so I've posted one of my favorite images.
ReplyDeleteMy father is my sleeper for this week. I am so glad there were no trains!
ReplyDeleteApologies for the fact that I won't be around this weekend - I am away at Scarborough. If I can manage to get a wifi signal I will try and catch up with people - otherwise, see you all next week.
ReplyDeleteNo time for sleep for the men in my post this week! Life was certainly different then, you really did earn your "bread" by the sweat of your brow......
ReplyDeleteThis was a tough one, but I managed to find something.
ReplyDeleteAh, my "mori" photo - the eternal sleep - was last week! I will have to think of something interesting, perhaps chairs or beds as resting places...
ReplyDeleteAs it is, I got stuck on death...I have a memorial card.
ReplyDeletePigs will fly when I stick to a given theme - Sepia is about as much as I can cope with. LOL. Although my subject did keep still for me. Is that enough? ♥
ReplyDeleteI've got a sleepy guy this week too. Nice subject.
ReplyDeleteCompletely on theme this week providing you imagine our theme fellow above is wearing a nice pair of toeless pumps.
ReplyDeleteOh this is right up my alley this week, just happened across something ....
ReplyDeleteAnother old pub from me this week, a nice place to fall asleep in.
ReplyDeleteTreasured Moments on the peaceful sofa-
ReplyDeleteOh but not at all relaxed rather quite alert as it was a special day-A 1942 Presentation this time from Kashmir Files.

I managed to go with the theme of sleeping during a photo shoot!
ReplyDeleteHave a good trip, I was out of town last weekend and skipped posting so here is mine for this week! You won't catch me taking a nap! ha ha!
ReplyDeleteNo sleeping around for me this week, but I will take issue with Mr Talbot's modus operandi.
ReplyDeleteno sleepers for me, but some ugly pictures, and some fun to go along with them...
ReplyDelete:)~
HUGZ
Great theme! I was very happy to have an immediately solution as to what to post. Always enjoy Sepia Saturday!
ReplyDeleteoff topics but I cant be left out! Come see Reverend Farmer on my blog
ReplyDeleteI'm off theme for this weekend, but still a great photo choice, Alan.
ReplyDeleteNothing like a good nap. Sorry about the two entries. I forgot the new link and left the old one in at first. Must have been napping.
ReplyDeleteQMM
I don't think in all honesty that I can say I was on theme, and the picture is far less interesting. But it's sepia.
ReplyDeleteAll my lot seem to be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, so it's a Last Minute Inspiration, No Connection to Theme post for me this week ;-) Jo
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteI hope my entry meets your theme. I've got a photograph of an old timer with a horse and plow. It's meant to drive home an important point in my post!
