Sepia Saturday 84 : Saturday 23 July 2011


This particular archive photograph celebrates two events : the last flight of the Space Shuttle and the fact that NASA has just added some 350 archive photographs to the Flickr Commons initiative. My chosen photograph dates back to 1964 and shows a researcher testing out an early space suit for the Apollo Moon Project. I recognise that this image may pose a bit of a challenge to the "themers" among Sepia Saturday followers, but I have every confidence in their ability to find images that fit whichever theme they care to identify. SEPIA SATURDAY is a weekly meme which encourages bloggers to publish and share old images and photographs. All that is required is for contributors to post an old image (it doesn't have to be in sepia) and provide a few words in explanation. If you could provide a link back to the Sepia Saturday Blog and visit as many of the other contributors as you can, it would also be appreciated. There is no weekly theme, as such, but some people like to use the archive image published with the weekly call as a kind of theme. There is no requirement to adopt such an approach : the choice of image is entirely up to you. Once you have published your Sepia Saturday post, add a link to that post to the Linky List published each week and leave a comment to let everyone know you are joining in.

    I was able to stay on theme, although not with my own photos)borrowed ones) this time except for an old journal entry of my own. :)

    I managed to stay in my spacesuit throughout! A couple of famous films, a book, a newspaper and something edible....sounds like a game of ‘charades’!

    I won't be posting this week but will read others....a welcome thunderstorm swept here in PA yesterday eve. That cooled it down, but we lost a small awning off our motor home in the brutal winds. The insurance company will love that.

    I was gonna try to take the "technology and innovation" theme and use that, but the automobile in my photo remains unidentified for now, so I don't know if it's innovative or not. Still, I posted ...

    Bringing up the rear.... I managed a tiny link to the theme. It's a shame I couldn't have anything more closely linked because I remember the early days of space exploration so very well. I was still clinging to my ambition of being an astronomer in those days - until I discovered how hard mathematics was.
