Sepia Saturday 324 : 2 April 2016

A new month, a new inn, a new Sepia Saturday challenge. Our theme image this week comes from the collection of the National Media Museum and it is an early (1880) print of the main street in the Cornish fishing village of Clovelly. There are all sorts of themes to play with - streets, donkeys and even inns, hotels, pubs and all manner of such glorious venues. All you need to do is to post your post on or around Saturday 2nd April 2016 and then add a link to the list below.

And whilst you sit down and enjoy a glass of best stout, why not have a ponder about what sepia delights await you in the coming weeks.

Sepia Saturday 323 : 26 March 2016

As that great cultural icon, Lord Elgin, once said: "life is just a game of marbles".  And it is with such a game that I round off my batch of Sepia Saturday prompts - the prompts for the next three months have been chosen by my fellow Sepia Administrator, Marilyn. So with this group of enthusiastic boys in their short trousers and school socks, the boys hand over to the girls, as far as the choice of theme images are concerned. This final image choice comes from the Flickr Commons collection of the National Library of Wales and has the romantic title (!) "Aspects of Amman Valley life before the Urdd Eisteddfod was held there in 1949" As usual, all you need to do is to examine where this image takes you in terms of your own old photographs - and take us along with you by means of a link to your blogpost on the Linky List below.

I have been trying my best to remember how to play marbles, but - in a sign of the times - I have discovered that there is a YouTube instructional video which will probably explain the finer points and the subtle differences between "quitsies" and "keepsies". Sepia Saturday 322 : 19th March 2016

Now let me apologise at the outset to my antipodean friends for my northern hemispheric approach to this Sepia Saturday call. I know down there (or should that be up there?) Autumn is slipping away and Winter is around the corner and you might well be getting out your thick duffel coats in order to protect yourself from the seasonal chill. But here, here in the north, I can hear the migrant birds returning, I can feel the ghost of warmth from the sun, and when I walk in the countryside I can hear the new-born lambs bleating and my very being cries out "Spring". Following that load of nonsense I had better extend my apologies to Sepians everywhere and get down to business - it's time to post your posts for Sepia Saturday 322 (on or around Saturday 19th March and link them to the list below). As usual you can go where you want with your interpretation of the image (a 1960 picture of twins feeding lambs from the Dutch National Archives) - wherever you go, we will follow.

Before you start bleating about how difficult this prompt is, take a look at what is around the corner!

Sepia Saturday 321 : 12 March 2016

I know we have kissed before - it's no secret is it! We first kissed back at SS87 (and I don't want to be suggestive but I note from Marilyn's excellent list of Sepia Saturday themes that six weeks later we were sleeping together and nine weeks after that there was a child on the scene!) We kissed again at SS156 (and five weeks later we were scoffing oysters but that is another story we had better not go into), and here we are at SS321 and we are at it again. We are at it, so to speak, in Sydney, Australia and the year is 1934. And in this photograph by Sam Hood from the State Library of New South Wales, what we have is a Grenadier Guard bandsman kissing the 1930s equivalent of a "groupie". Sepia Saturday 320 : 5 March 2016

A public fountain in Queretaro, Mexico. Wheelbarrows that look like a left-over prop from the Flintstones carrying pottery jars that would not be out of place on an archaeological dig. And let us not forget the hats that look a little like traffic cones. There are a number of potential themes you might want to highlight in this week's Sepia Saturday theme image (which comes from the Flickr stream of Cornell University).
